The Bill of Rights was specifically established to protect citizens from the government and its power. It’s human nature for us to feel that our opinion is superior to others, and to express those feelings. Freedom of speech allows us to speak up against unjust policies, which has impacted America greatly. Criticism is such a big part of today’s society, even television shows like “America’s Got Talent” are based around it. If individuals didn’t speak up for what they thought was wrong, African Americans or women wouldn’t have the rights we do today because of someone criticizing how a specific group was being treated. Censorship of communication is wrong because it stultifies a number of ideas that can be challenged or adopted.
