In a group setting one individual seem very annoyed with the other two people conversation about the training that needs to be completed within a week. The other two people were very animated in expressing their feeling verbally and non-verbally from facial expression to hand gestures to express their unhappiness about completing the training in such a short notice. It is the most important aspect to face to face interactions. (Sole, K.)(2011). When starting my interpersonal communication class, I was familiar with nonverbal communication. on political matters, whether or not a particular restaurant sounds good or if the dress one’s wife is wearing makes her look fat. Nonverbal communication can go much further in expressing one’s needs, feeling, and wants to another person. If a person is taken to Germany and is ignorant to the German language that person would be able to obtain food, a place to sleep, and many of the other basic requirements needed to survive. Many of the expressions and gestures one can make are universal. If one points to their left wrist, one is asking the time. If one puts their hand to their mouth in a drinking or eating fashion, then those actions are conveyed to the other person. “Examples of nonverbal messages which actually take the place of verbal messages are shaking a clenched fist, a look of disgust, shaking the head in disbelief, a look of contempt, rolling the eyes, a deep sigh and tone of voice. All of these can tell a…
A touch, making eye contact with someone, or the tone of voice you take when saying something. All of these things make up a big part of how you communicate and interact with other people. These ways of communicating all fall under the category of non-verbal communication. Non-verbal communication is, “those aspects of communication, such as gestures and facial expressions, that do not involve verbal communication but which may include nonverbal aspects of speech itself, (accent, tone of voice, speed of speaking, etc)” (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/nonverbal communication) as defined by Dictionary.com. Non-verbal communication makes up most of the ways that we communicate with someone. Non-verbal cues are vital in a conversation. “One study at UCLA indicated that up to 93 percent of communication effectiveness is determined by nonverbal cues. Another study indicated that the impact of a performance was determined 7 percent by the words used, 38 percent by voice quality, and 55 percent by the nonverbal communication.” (http://humanresources.about.com/od/interpersonalcommunicatio1/a/nonverbal_com.htm) A person’s tone of voice plays a big part when giving non-verbal cues. If something is said with a strong tone a voice, the audience may perceive enthusiasm or confidence. Also, that same exact thing could be said in a hesitant tone of voice and the audience could perceive that the speaker is intimidated or nervous. If you were to say something in a positive or soothing tone, then that could promote motivation or a sense of safety in the person you are speaking to.…

Messages can be communicated through gestures and touch, body language or posture, physical distance, facial expression and eye contact, which are all types of nonverbal communication. Speech contains nonverbal elements known as paralanguage, including voice quality, rate, pitch, volume, and speaking style, as well as prosodic features such as rhythm, intonation, and stress. Likewise, written texts have nonverbal elements such as handwriting style, spatial arrangement of words, or the physical layout of a page. However, much of the study of nonverbal communication has focused on face-to-face interaction, where it can be classified into three principal areas: environmental conditions where communication takes place, physical characteristics of the communicators, and behaviours of communicators during interaction.…
The recent observation of how men and women relate to each other was really fascinating as it was obvious to notice the affliative and power cues' that Janet Mills speaks off in Body Language Speaks Louder Than Words. For this paper, I chose to do my observations at the restaurant that I work at. I went into Giordano’s Restaurant around four o’clock on a Friday afternoon, which was about an hour before I had to be there for my shift. I asked my manager if I could sit in a booth and eat some food before my shift. After his consent, I took the entire hour to sit, eat, and observe. I watched many different people come and go through the doors, but I mainly focused on two tables and a waitress. The type of research I completed was qualitative, meaning that it focused more on the physical things I was observing. The level of analysis was micro, which means that it is an analysis dealing with small groups of people or one-on-one interactions. The method of data collection I used was observation, which is obvious for the fact that I sat back and watched the actions of others and observed their behavior.…
