The North and South are both different, but they both have great strengths and weaknesses. The Civil War was started by The Kansas-Nebraska act. When Kansas got the right to vote, residents from Missouri crossed over the Kansas border to vote so that Kansas would become a slave state. Missouri wanted to make Kansas a slave state. “On July 21, 1861, the first battle of the civil war” (American Odyssey) broke out because of the feud between Kansas and Missouri. The society in the North increased due to immigration between 1800 and 1860. ‘The population in the North started at 5 million and went up to about 31 million resulting from massive immigration” (Student Handout, 2017). Immigration affects the economy due to all the jobs that are open and all the immigrants coming to the north. So the economy is going up from the jobs and the people coming in for the jobs. The economy of the “North consists of big cities from the immigration which is beneficial for trade and manufacturing”.(Student Handout,2017). Water from rivers and streams, through the form of hydroelectric power, powered the factories. In the North the economy grew dramatically with harbors and streets being improved, a better sanitation system formed and education increased. The North is a more industrial and the South is all farm land. The North has a bigger population than the South but the South has a lot more farmland and a lot more crops. If I was alive during the Civil War I would want to live in the North do to the jobs and the better education for the people. The South only gets it’s education if the family is rich with a plantation. So the North is better for the people and the
