Obesity in Adults Obesity has greatly grown over the past years in the United States, and it is one of the biggest health problems in the world today. Having a high percentage of body fat is defined as obesity. BMI is a simple indicator of weight-for-height scale and is commonly used to classify overweight and obesity among adults. Obesity has serious health effects and the risk increases gradually with increased BMI. Obesity is a major risk factor for chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, musculoskeletal disorders and certain cancers. Obesity could be caused due to a combination of causes and contributing factors such as unhealthy eating habits, inactivity, or other psychological reasons. The unhealthy eating habits and daily lifestyles such as consuming excessive fatty foods, starches, and sweets, lead to obesity. Not eating breakfast is one of the worst eating habits, it causes the diet to turn into an unhealthy and unbalanced system. Eating breakfast helps reduce the number of calories entering the body. Eating fruits directly after eating a meal causes the abdomen to bulge and the body will not benefit …show more content…
If you're not active enough, you do not use the energy provided by the food you eat, the extra energy you consume is stored by the body as fat. People who are inactive are more likely to gain weight because they don't burn up the calories that they take in. The Department of Health recommends that adults do at least 150 minutes of aerobic activities, such as cycling, dancing, or fast walking every week. Being active for at least 150 minutes per week could lower your chance of becoming obese. For example, you could exercise for 30 minutes a day for five days a week. If someone is obese and is trying to lose weight, they would need to be more active in order to burn more fat. It may help to start off slowly and gradually increase the amount of exercise each
