Observation Of A Child Observation
In order to start the process for my observation I had to first speak with the parents of the child Mr. and Mrs. Pretty (not their real name). I spoke with Mrs. Pretty because her husband was unavailable at the time and I know her very well. I informed her about the assignment and discussed the outline of it with her to ensure that she knew exactly what the observation entail as well as the fact that I might need additional information from her or her husband. She informed me that she would inform her husband and then I may proceed. She was very willing to allow me to observe her daughter as well as provide the information that I may need. I also agreed to disclose the finding of the observation of her daughter with her as well as not to use her daughter’s real name nor their family name.

She has her own room and sleeps in her own bed. She is independent of her mother. She doesn’t mind spending weekend with her grandparent or having sleepover at her Aunts and uncles. She like to do things on her own and she would get a little frustrated when it doesn’t go the way she wants. However I don’t see her throwing stuff or yelling when she gets frustrated, she remains calm but you can tell that she is getting frustrated based on her expressions or she may call for help. She like to follow her brother so she is like a tom boy as you would call it. Her mom says that she is not very girlie and she even wants to cut her hair short like her brothers and I can definitely understand why. Having four brothers is bound to rub a girl the boy way. She pretty much can brush her teeth, bath and dress herself but you know her mother supervise and does these thing alternately. At this age, you know she will not do it as effectively as her mom, but allowing her to do these thing, builds her confidence and communicate to her that she is capable of doing these thing and it positively promotes

I observed a child throwing a fit at the mall the other day. This child did not want to leave the store and did not want to get into her stroller. She started to throw her head back and scream very loudly. Then she would throw her arms around and kick, in an attempt to not be strapped in. The mother started to yell at her daughter to stop while trying to strap her in. After a few minutes of the child kicking and screaming she was able to strap her in. But the child continued to scream, this was when the mother decided to leave the mall. My recommendation is that instead of trying to force the child into the stroller the parent could have held the child. Trying her best to calm her down, since the child was throwing around her body while the…

Lastly, another issue surrounding confidentiality is that parents should have rights of access. This means that parents need to give permission for the observation to take place and keep relevant information and documents. Furthermore, parents should be able to ask to see observations at any time. However, they cannot have access if the observer feels the child is in danger and therefore they have the right to withdraw the parent’s access to these files.…

In an evening spent at a local park, I observed two toddlers playing on the playground. Both toddlers were about the same size and height, and they were seemingly about two years of age. These two children stood out to me because though they seemed about the same age, their behavior on the playground was very different. As I observed, both subtle and large differences began to make themselves apparent.…

The child I am observing (Child N), is a five-year six-month old boy who attends a public school located in the West Village area of Manhattan. He is classified as being speech impaired. As per classroom teachers, he is bright in the sense that there are some tasks he is able to complete without verbal cues such as sorting, and an inquisitive child in the sense that shows interest in new things and people. My first day he stared at me nearly the entire time I was in the class. He demonstrates delays in most areas of development. Child N receives speech therapy individually two times a week for thirty minutes in a separate location and in a group of three, once a week, for thirty minutes in a separate location. He receives occupational…

I observed three little boys on the climber and there was some unsafe action happening. Nick the little boy in the blue shirt and tan pants was climbing up the climber using the steps and wooden part of the slide with a wooden toy in his hands. There was another boy who was climbing up the climber walking, pushing a wooden toy up with him. The third boy was climbing up the steps. When Nick got to the top of the slide he slides down really fast. The other boys did not wait, they rushed down all fast with wooden toys spread across the front. Nick ran from the slide to a car where another child was playing with it but he took it over. He did not talk to the child just burst in and started placing his cars on the rack to slide. Nick was doing parallel play with the children in his…

Coloring and playing with her friends made her happy and she was smiling and jumping around. Cognitively she was well developed. She was able to eat with out anyone supervising. As Piaget theory states that children around this age use symbol to represent people, places, or events. For Alishaba Keys was something that reminded her of her dad, as door opened she assosiated it with some one leaving (her parents most likely). Her language skills were amazing as she was speaking two languges without any problems. She uses many big words and long sentences. She was well aware of the fact that she was a female. She kept toy lipstick and make up kit as she probably imitates her mom and her mom seemed like the "role model" for her. She was very interestingly character for me to observe. mostly she was like a typical girl for that age but only few things that I thought were a little unique is her being anxsious even at that age and not interecting with the girls she didn't know when she was very interctive with the ones she…

It was playtime for the one year old boy. There were all sorts of toys. The playroom was very small. There was a huge toy chest full to the top with toys. On the wall there was a body length mirror. This was the little boys favorite place to play. He would also play with some of the other toys like blocks, cars, stuffed animals and other things. No matter what he grabbed he always brought it in front of the mirror.…

Finding parent B wasn’t too hard of a challenge, I was at a family cookout and noticed a mother verbally and physically abusing her child. Watching the child’s face in humiliation was heart breaking, that I wanted to comfort the boy. What stood out to me when I observed the mother forcefully slapping the kid on the butt and hands anytime the child didn’t listen to her. This is a form of unwanted parenting, “mother’s not wanting to have any children or not wanting to have more than she has” (Brooks, 2015, p115). I remember her hitting the son when he dropped his hot dog on the ground, she would shout “why are you so stupid and clumsy”. This child appeared to be at least 7-9 years old, plus he was wearing a ninja turtles’ shirt, the same age I was into ninja turtles.…
