dingo) is a species of wild dog belonging to the family Canidae, and is Australia’s largest terrestrial predator (Crowther et al., 2014). Through archaeological research, it is thought that the dingo has existed in Australia for a minimum of 3000 to 5000 years. There has been confusion as to the dingo’s ancestry, with some scientists suggesting they are a subspecies of Canis lupus. However, the study of dingo genetics has revealed that the species is likely derived from East Asian domesticated dogs and has since developed into a distinctive species as a result of natural selection, segregation from other dogs and genetic drift over thousands of years (Crowther et al., 2014). Around 190km north…

Moving on from our bodies, industrial meat production also critically impacts our environment and harms our water. Pesticides and other chemicals that are used at CAFOs are washed away as runoff from rain and go straight to our oceans. Manure, containing antibiotics, from CAFOs can flow into storm drains which then flow into our oceans as well. As a result, the water temperature in the oceans is gradually rising and the Ph levels are dropping. The pollution that we as humans are pouring into our ocean is changing the chemistry of our ocean from a Ph of about 8.2 to 7.8 by the year 2100 if we acidification continues at the current rate (Working together today, n.d.). This may not seem like much, but with the water temperature rising and Ph levels…

A scientist who previously worked as a Seaworld trainer says that it’s no surprise that the orca killed. His reasoning was that the orca had nowhere to swim in the small tank, nothing to do, and had many different injuries. Those included sunburns, tooth infections, and being attacked very often by the other orcas. Orcas normally swim about a distance of 100 miles everyday, but the tanks didn’t leave much room for swimming. All this could’ve led to the orca lashing out…

Conrad is a, soon to be, 5 year old boy who is very active and advanced intellectually. He would be categorized in Piaget’s preoperational stage, which is characteristic of an increase in representational activity (Berk, 2012). This is evident in how Conrad is currently playing. For example, one of his favorite things to do when he is at our house is to play “race cars” with Papa (my husband). He has a scooter that is kept at our house and the first thing he does is go to our garage to get his “race car”. He will then “set the stage” for us by making up a story of how he is a world…

Animal Experimentation plays an important role in today’s medical and pharmaceutical advances, but many question the morality of such a use of animal life. Whether you argue that testing different products and drugs on animals is necessary or not, this has become an integral part of developing products. From that Tylenol you pop to get rid of your headache, to that perfect shade of pink lip gloss, animal testing is used in order to produce the simplest household items. Today, in the United States, it is federal law that requires all pharmaceuticals, food additives, cosmetics, and garden chemicals to undergo a series of tests, including animal testing, before being available to general public. It is estimated between fifty and a hundred million vertebrate animals worldwide are being used fro animal experiments. While many believe that animal experimentation is a crucial part of research and safety, others argue the morality of this issue. Another point of view some share is a mixture of both opposing views, where one believes that animal experimentation should only be condoned in the field of medical research but not for vanity reasons.…
