On his journey back from the war him and his men were on on a ship back home and found themselves on an island, not knowing who was on this island, they stayed. When Odysseus and his men were looking for food a pig came out of nowhere and they started chasing it. One of the men told him that the pig they found was actually one of his men who was turned into a pig by a witch who ruled the island named Circe. He found the witch and didn’t leave until his men were promised to be returned back to their original form, he didn’t care what he had to do. He had to sleep with Circe in order for his men to be freed, even though he had his wife and son waiting for him at home. This shows that he wouldn’t stop fighting for his men, no matter what until they were okay, which shows that even if he is in danger himself, he would save his men; his brothers.
Odysseus and his men, after leaving Circe’s island, were sailing through the seas once again and found themselves in trouble. They started to hear a beautiful sound, Odysseus knew what troubles lied ahead so, he ordered his men to put beeswax in their ears and to tie Odysseus up to the mast. Sirens, their song would lure you into a trap and no one would hear from you again. This shows that Odysseus wanted his men to be safe so he told them to put beeswax in their ears so they wouldn't be lured into their deaths.
When we think of someone who is a hero do we think of Odysseus? Do we think about how he was brave and would do anything for his men, family, and his kingdom? In Homer’s The Odyssey Odysseus is a hero, for his wit, strength, and

In the Odyssey, Odysseus has been portrayed as a war hero. His characteristics on the other hand, portray a villain. In Book 9, Odysseus stole Polyphemus’ sheep, as well as blinded him. Polyphemus was considered a villain when he held Odysseus captive, yet Odysseus was still a hero when he stole his sheep in the first place. This shows that heroes gained their glory by taking over other regions. Heroes sacked cities, heroes attacked the innocent, heroes fought for what they thought was right. The time period the Odyssey took place revolved around fighting. As a result, the heroes were then based on who ever sacked more cities, not an impact of the greater good. All in all, a hero is shaped through portrayal and the time period.…
