Odysseus Strengths And Weaknesses
Odysseus has many strengths so far in the book. He is pretty smart, For example when Odysseus gets stuck on the island with a cyclops he doesn't kill him, because he knows if he kills him they can't leave the cave because the rock is too heavy for them. he was also really smart when he went he ties himself to the Mast of the boat and tells his crew not to untie him. he was also very strong when he was on the Phaeacians island and their “Olympics”, he won every event that he participated in.I also think he very brave when they went by the monster with six heads and he didn't turn back and go the other direction he kept going even though he lost six of his men. Odysseus was very lucky to go to the underworld and then come back up to the normal

These traits of a hero all contribute to how odysseus acts in battle and the lessons that Odysseus along with the readers learn. We learn to stay true to our families and hold on to our past lives even if we aren't living in them anymore. This is shown throughout most of the book when odysseus is always reminded of his family and to keep moving on for them. Also to be smart about situations and not show fear are some more of his traits. He shows strength and courage when he battled through all of his troubles not physically but mentally getting through the scylla and charybdis with trying to loose as least men as possible.…

Odysseus was a leader who would sacrifice anything for his crew just like when he put the spike into the cyclops eye as it said "Just so that his eyeball hissed around the spike." (P.768). Which explained his courageous act against the cyclops. There was other signs of courage for example, when he sacrificed himself for the crews safety agains the Sirens "They tied me up, plumb amidship, back to the mast." (P.784). Which is another sign of courage and shows how much of a hero Odysseus really is.…

These winds created a hurricane, which Odysseus’ ship was thrown into it. “Roused up, despairing in that gloom, I thought: Should I go overside for a quick finish or clench my teeth and stay among the living?” (Fitzgerald, 156). His intelligence and strength allow him to get out of difficult situations, but his one flaw that was bringing Odysseus down was his hubris. The whole time Odysseus was trying to get home, he had many opportunities to display these traits, for example giving Polyphemus the wine to put him asleep showed his intelligence because this was the best way to injure the giant while causing the least amount of death. When he hung from the fig tree and waited for his ship, or being trapped in Polyphemus’s cave are all obstacles that he had to overcome. Odysseus overcame these obstacles because he is a hero and heroes overcome problems that come their way. Odysseus is not a superhero however, he is just a normal person that overcomes mistakes and problems that he is faced with. Everyone knows about superheroes and heroes and that they share similar principles except anyone can be a hero, but no one can be a…

Odysseus is not a modern day hero because he tricked his men into thinking that he has logos. He convinced his men to be as brave as he is when they were going to fight through scylla. He does this because he knew he whould not get eaten while his men whould. as shown in this quote he gives his men ethos to get them ready “Well, I walked up and down from bow to stern, trying to put heart into them, standing over every oarsmen, saying gently, have we ever been in danger before this.” after he told them this they went to scylla and fought. Odysseus also has bravery when he stabbed the cyclops in his eye, he told him that his name is nobody to trick him. he also disguised his men as sheep so that they could get out of the cave.
