One More Day Play
On March 26, 2016 at the Drama Lab Theatre, One More Day was come to life by drama students at OCC. Michael Roddy is the playwright to One More Day. This play would fall under the drama genre because of its serious viewpoints. I thought this play was poorly written. However, Cynthia Corley’s costume design was spot-on and David Scaglione’s set design was done very well. One More Day is about a Bracero worker, Gustavo, who tells his grandson Luis about a day in the life of a Bracero worker. He goes into what he recalls from his experience as one of the workers and what it was really like for everyone.
The main characters of this play are; Sylvia, Luis, Gustavo, Pedro, Ignacio, Juan, Olga, Belinda, and Antonio. One More Day is set in Salinas, California, the California border, and Monterey County. It takes place between 1942, 1963, and the present. The play ends with everyone from the fields dying except for Gustavo, because he decided to walk instead of taking the bus like everyone else in 1963, and then it switches to the present time where Gustavo and his grandson Luis are writing letters to each other about what happened back in 1963.
The meaning of this is play is to see the day in the life of a Bracero worker. I think one of the themes in this play is life in general, because the whole play is about a Bracero worker who left his

Casting was done very well, the director picked actors who weren’t too old or too young. The actors fit their roles nicely. The actors used the space of the stage they weren’t in one spot the whole time they moved around so that they used the stage space efficiently. The actors could be seen in every direction from the audience. The cast worked together as an ensemble and they all seemed to have the same goals and acting abilities. I thought the directorial interpretation was interesting and that it served the script

There were some things that I didn’t like about the play. One of the characters portrayed a rebellious girl who wore dark clothes and heavy makeup. She was the one who was hooking up with the professor and her friend. She kept blinking her eyes too much and moving her head to try to look as if she was being seductive. I understand that in order to portray a seductive character some of those gestures would work well. I think the actor over did it, and I found it distracting to watch her keep doing the robotic gestures even when…
