Juwan Torres

Seventh Grade

October 30, 2010

I went to sleep last night, expecting an

ordinary day today. However, instead of

the usual routine, my day turned out to be more

surprising then I had expected. Normaly

I wake up and eat breakfast, watch television, or use

the computer, and eat snacks all

going to the library, and eating pizza.

When I go to the store I usually go to the game

A hard-working, single mother receives her pay-check that to her horror reads a measly $225.30. As she heads to the bank to cash the check she passes the neighborhood local store and no cars are outside and the light are dim. Nothing comes to her mind as to what seems different, she proceeds to head over to the bank, and notices that there is no clerks and no long lines? English 101 has been an amazing class and I feel like I have grown more than I expected. I was apprehensive about taking an English class because I have been away from school for almost seventeen years. I have not written an essay since 1996 and I knew many things have changed. I was especially concerned with citations. However, I found myself being able to work though citations with little effort.…

I had only gotten six hours of sleep. I didn’t want to get up but today is the day that I get to explore Chicago with my friends! Even though I felt exhausted I pushed myself up and got ready. I didn’t know whether to expect it to be warm like the last few days have been or if it would be cold, so I dressed for both. I pulled my sneakers on and collected my little bag full of snacks and essentials for walking around all day. Getting to school I go sit with my friends outside the gym as we anxiously wait for the bell to ring. We came up with our plan of where we wanted to go as we munched on our little breakfast.…

Some Sumer activities that I like to do or achieve for the school break are having fun with my friends and family and play. On really hot days we go down to the lake and play in the water or go fishing. I also like to play with my dog and go for walks with her if I'm not dragging her all the way there and back. Sometimes I do work with my dad most of the times it involves a lot of elbow grease. I love to do fun activities with my mom that does relate a little work, at the end she gets us a treat. On the days I'm not doing anything I go out with friends or they come to my house, and if I'm good we go to get air, other wise, we just watch movies and relax. On other days when we are in the garden I like to swim, maybe even play with the sprinklers and bother my brothers.…

I remember the day well. I was just finished with school for the year and sitting on the front step, the top half of me laying back on the porch, just staring. I was thinking about the small house my mother worked so hard for us to get and keep. We lived in row housing just outside Juneau Alaska. All of the houses were small and I always thought to myself, “Is this the life I am destined for?” My mind wondered as I looked up at the clouds and squinted because of the sun.…
