The great financial results of WFM™ in 2012 generated + 1 Billion in EBITDA, 25 new stores opened and a strong position as the America’s healthiest grocery store indicates the strategy and philosophy of Mr. Mackey ' s view of corporations in society is contributing to the organizational success of the 30-years old company.1 (Whole Foods, 2012)…

The cornerstone of Whole Food’s strategy is to carry the highest quality, lowest processed-foods, and the most flavorful and natural preserved foods available. Whole Foods deepest purpose is to help support the health, well being, and healing of people (customers, the Whole Foods team, and businesses) and the planet. John Mackey, cofounder and CEO of Whole Foods, attributes the rapid growth and success of Whole Foods to developing and maintaining a uniquely mission-driven company; a company that is highly selective about what is sold, that remains dedicated to its core values and high quality standards, and is committed to sustainable agriculture. Whole Foods wanted to be the international brand for natural and organic foods and be the best food retailer in every community in which Whole Foods Markets were located. The chief elements of Whole Foods strategy are as follows:…

Primarily I would locate Whole Foods under the Philanthropic Responsibility part of Carroll’s Global Corporate Social Responsibility Pyramid. What sticks out to me so much in this case study is how Mackey spoke about a bigger pie and everyone getting a bigger piece, instead of someone getting a larger piece which would require someone getting a smaller piece. I think that is definitely what is desired by stakeholders. However I feel that Whole Foods does fit under all four categories of the pyramid.…

I think John Mackey has an excellent strategic vision for Whole Foods. Whole Foods meets a need that most big box retailers don’t. Consumers are obviously pleased with the strategy as well, as evidenced by their willingness to pay higher prices for the quality they desire. I like the company’s vision statement. The mission statement does a good job of conveying what Whole Foods is all about.…

There are many factors that would make working for Whole Foods very appealing. Whole Foods was “voted one of the best 100 companies to work for by Fortune Magazine 17 years in a row” (Cheretis & Mujtaba, 2014, p.13), and focusing on McGregor’s Theory Y when developing their management philosophy undoubtedly has played a large role in this. Whole Food embodies McGregor’s Theory Y management style by valuing their employees and focusing on enabling them to be highly productive (Kinicki & Kreitner, 2013). From a management perspective, this is how I would want to manage, and having the support of the entire company would make working for Whole Foods appealing.…

Whole Foods values their employees, and that appeals to me the most. I also like that they believe in training the employees, and want the employees to see themselves as equal partners in the company. Whole Foods also believes in promotion, the job I currently have has no room for me to be promoted. There are only two of us in the IT department at the local level. At times this situation really bothers me, I still have 20 more years to work. Just the thought of me doing the same job for the next 20 years is depressing to me. I believe that I would grow as an employee and a human being, if I were employed at Whole Foods.…
