PERSONAL LEARNING PAPER 1
Back to when I first start this course, there are so many new things I have learned. Compared to those surrounding me every day, this knowledge appears to be very helpful in explaining others’ behaviors. Of this useful knowledge that I have recently received, Managerial Roles, Discriminations happen due to the diversity in the workforce, Job Attitudes – with organizational factors are the three main concerns of mine.
Firstly, when it comes to the management and organization, no one can deny the importance of managers. They are not the majority workforce of the company but their actions or thoughts may affect the whole organization’s performance. The first chapter mentioned the three main roles by the Henry Mintzberg. These include Interpersonal, Informational and Decisional Roles. By the roles, the managers perform different sets of behaviors in their work. Applied in daily life, these could be best described in my uncle’s case.
My uncle is a manager of a construction company. He is responsible for constructing major projects related to entertainment like department store or shopping mall. By looking at his life and what I have learned so far, he appears clearly as a typical example of Interpersonal Role in a manager. As a leader of a company, he has to well motivate the employees. One example of good motivation could be the time when I moved to Ho Chi Minh City and lived with his family for a short time last summer. At that time, they have just finished a long-lasting project. Relaxing is what the employees actually wanted but did not speak out. As an interesting idea came, my uncle took the whole family to go out with the workers together with their families. He realized that the workers did not have time to hang out with families during the project. A team leader of him had to break the promises to hang out with his daughter day to day because of the long working
