I didn’t even know where to start with this task. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that I needed to stop living based on what other people wanted from me, and to instead slow down and take care of my own needs. Being a selfless person, this was difficult for me to do. I love helping others, and it’s hard for me to say no when someone asks for something, but I needed to make my health a priority. I adopted a healthy diet, started exercising regularly, and spending more time building up my mental and spiritual fitness. As an active duty member of the Army, I had little time to invest into my education and clinical experiences, especially when pursuing health science. Almost all science classes in my area were only available during my primary working hours. It wasn’t until I transferred to the Reserves this past year that I was really able to pursue this path full-time. In order to apply to medical school this year, I took my MCAT prior to completing all my prerequisite coursework. This resulted in a lower score than desired. Since summer of this year, I have been able to complete 22 credit hours, and am currently working on completing 12 additional credit hours, primarily in biological
