Overcoming Racism
Racism exist and has existed throughout human history. Growing up a Hispanic-American, I've had to deal with being discriminated and prejudiced against. What has our world come to? People are being judged by their race and skin color. As I look in the mirror in the mornings, I think to myself, “Why am I look at differently?” As I walk out to the bus away from my mental sanctuary,question and thoughts scatter through my mind trying to find a way out but they are lost and imprisoned due to intimidation and insecurity. According to Mark Potok director of the Intelligence Project,of the Southern Poverty Law Center. The situation in Suffolk County, in fact, is a microcosm of a problem facing the entire United States, Where FBI statistics suggest a 40% rise in anti-Latino hate crimes between 2003 and 2007. As you can see racism and hate walk hand in hand. If we continue to be passive about racism, this world will be tormented by discrimination and hatred. Racial insults can not only hurt feelings but can poison the mind with hostility and distress. We have to overcome all fears and begin to change the lack of confidence now or we are going to be blinded by the hate in our minds and racism will cause us humans to turn on ourselves and make the earth
