Why would this be beneficial? Many of clients that come to the pantry work full time, they might be new to the area. A lot of clients that come to the pantry ask the volunteers questions that should be answered by a social worker, which many of the volunteers do not know any of the resources in the area that might be beneficial to the client. If they are able to get the resources in the area then they might not have to keep coming to the pantry as much or eventually not come at all.
The beginning steps
To begin the start of the policy, I went to my supervisor Ruma Marshall, who is the assistant director of the Maternal Family Services unite. She was in agreeance that it would benefit the clients to have some type of case management. She let me know that I would then have to go to the director of the Maternal Family Services, Tamera Hall. Hopefully soon, the policy can be acted out by a few of the members of the social work team from the department. I was unable to do any case management with pantry clients because my internship in the department ended. I know my supervisor was very passionate with me about the policy coming into play. Also, with the summer months coming up and things slowing down in the department, it provides a good amount of time for those willing to implement the policy. I will continue to be in touch if any questions are raised or any achievements are made. Policy assessment could be achieved by using a small sample of the pantry clients and after meeting with them through an extended period of time, seeing the progress that was
