Pantry Policy Scenario
proposing this policy we can help clients get the local services that they need and in return will help lower the number of repeat clients at the pantry.
Why would this be beneficial? Many of clients that come to the pantry work full time, they might be new to the area. A lot of clients that come to the pantry ask the volunteers questions that should be answered by a social worker, which many of the volunteers do not know any of the resources in the area that might be beneficial to the client. If they are able to get the resources in the area then they might not have to keep coming to the pantry as much or eventually not come at all.
The beginning steps
To begin the start of the policy, I went to my supervisor Ruma Marshall, who is the assistant director of the Maternal Family Services unite. She was in agreeance that it would benefit the clients to have some type of case management. She let me know that I would then have to go to the director of the Maternal Family Services, Tamera Hall. Then go to her supervisor and then to the executive director, Sister Mary Alice. I would also have to get the approval from the social workers that would be initially doing

Hopefully soon, the policy can be acted out by a few of the members of the social work team from the department. I was unable to do any case management with pantry clients because my internship in the department ended. I know my supervisor was very passionate with me about the policy coming into play. Also, with the summer months coming up and things slowing down in the department, it provides a good amount of time for those willing to implement the policy. I will continue to be in touch if any questions are raised or any achievements are made. Policy assessment could be achieved by using a small sample of the pantry clients and after meeting with them through an extended period of time, seeing the progress that was

    Noblesville, IN’s Department of Job and Family Services’ implemented a new policy stating that “any household that has one or more documented offense of domestic violence, child abuse, or drug or alcohol related offenses committed by the mother, father, guardian, and/or caregiver, will result in the removal of any child or children from the home.” In addition to the removal of a child, “the child will be placed in the care of the state, or foster care services, until documentation can prove that the offender has undergone any or all of the following, and has thus been “offense free” for a period of no less than six months: alcohol and /or drug treatment, counseling, family therapy sessions, mental health treatment, anger management, life skills classes, and/or parenting classes.” I have to say that I strongly oppose the majority of the policy. Firstly, I see many ethical and moral dilemmas. Secondly, I believe this policy will have an immediate negative impact on the children, as well as an ultimately destructive effect on criminality in the future. Lastly, while I do feel that the Department of Job and Family Services interpreted the social learning theory properly, I do not feel, however, that they applied it properly when implementing the policy. I question this policy for that a number of moral and ethical issues come to mind when I think of this new policy. This policy seems to be that of one that too quickly jumps to conclusions as well as judgments. Which brings up questions such as who determines that a child is in danger? What constitutes endangerment in the government’s eyes? How is it decided that the state is better suited to raise my child?…

    First I will give a brief history of the program and its presenting issues that we face with the providers. In consultation with my supervisor and other caseworkers, it was a unanimous decision that our provider’s contract needed to be revised. This has been an ongoing issue between the providers and the network. There are many providers that have been with the agency since its beginning twenty-five years ago, and a lot has changed in those twenty-five years. We have had complaints from parents for things that the providers are and are not doing. We have noticed violations against the Department of Health’s regulations and the agency’s policies and procedures.
