One might ask, can a nurse give full attention to one single patient when assigned too many other tasks? This can become stressful and pressurized, providing little time for communication. When we communicate to the patient, it is very important that we keep in mind our choice of words and the tone we use to say it. Patient can sense frustration through our body language, and the way we respond.
However, not all communication
is verbal. Nonverbal communication such as writing, and demonstration can be a form of communicating.
Learning how to appreciate ones culture and language can play an important part of a patient’s health literacy. The concepts of culture and language, is that culture affects health literacy skills. A person’s beliefs, and values holds influence on how a person interprets healthcare messages. If we know a patients language and culture we can then know how health can literate a person in any given situation.
