Peer Mentor Report

One of the greatest leadership roles I have taken on has been at my school, which was deciding to become a peer mentor. The focus of this role was to help underclassmen by influencing them to further their education. Attending the training for this program opened my eyes to the endless opportunities that they had just by doing well in school. I knew that by becoming a mentor I would develop important dexterities such as being accountable for someone who needs guidance. The excitement in being peer mentor was impacting young minds with positivity about their futures. I supported my younger peers that I was assigned to by advocating for their success and pushing them to do more than the minimal in in order to excel. Pushing them to do their absolute
best showed me that I was beginning to develop new skills such as being able to motivate people and in doing so I motivated myself. Also, I became self disciplined because of the extra tutoring I provided for them after school and during lunch. My mentees went from barely passing their classes to being proficient and extremely productive in almost every class. Being able to actually see a difference in their overall performance in the class because of my guidance inspired me to find ways to pursue more leadership roles after high school. My next step would include seeking more leadership roles by joining similar programs in any academic space I am a part of.
