Peer Tutoring
Peer Tutoring is a class that I thought I would be able to slack off and get an easy mark in, but throughout the semester I learned it was not as easy as I thought it would be. It is something people take for granted. As the semester went by I started to like it peer tutoring because it gave me skills, I got some work experience and it is also a fun thing to do depending on what class you choose to peer tutor in and I chose gym class.
Firstly peer tutoring is a good class if you want to learn new skills. You can gain new skills when your teaching a class or helping a teacher teach, teaching is a skill. Also you will learn how to be more of a leader if you take this class because students will look up to you and you will have to guide them in the right path, I didn't think it would but since I started taking it I feel that my leadership qualities have increased and the boys in the gym class respect me more for that, they also think of me as an older brother to them all, and I treat them like they are my little brothers.
Secondly you will gain a lot of experience when if you take this class. I learned a lot of new things and now I have experience teaching students things, and I also have been marking the classes tests. I learned that a lot of the kids in the kids in the class learn differently. These kind of things that maybe useful to you later on in life. That is it why it is good to take peer tutoring.
Overall I had fun in the class learning and teaching the class. When I tried to teach the class one day I thought it would be fun and easy, but it was not easy or fun. I had a hard time trying to get the class to listen to me. Then I realized how the teacher felt when the class does not listen. But in the end I had fun getting them to listen by making them doing something they didn’t like doing. You could also have fun by playing with them in whatever sport they are playing.
This is why peer tutoring is a good course to take. First you learn new skills, second

It also encourages them to look at aspects for further development. An example of this in my area would be with practical tasks. When the learners are working together or in small groups they can check each other’s work and even advice on a quicker or more effective way of completing the task. It can also be used in a reflection of their own work. For example id they were to do the task again how would they improve their working methods. Peer assessment can also help the learners see the criteria of the course more effectively and making their goals more understandable. It can also help knock down social boundaries. But this needs to be done carefully as it could easily go the other way and be used as an excuse to demoralise other learners causing more social boundaries. A few down sides to using these assessment methods are learners may be too shy to give proper feedback…

If the facilitator doesn’t entertain certain students as they learn and they do not feel instant gratification from participating actively in online discussions, then those students will simply stop participating and therefore will not benefit from peer-to-peer learning. Other reasons that concern me are that some lurkers may lack confidence to participate, may be introverted, or be a novice student and not understand the material or assignment. Some read only participants may care about themselves alone and are satisfied that their own learning needs are being met, thus being selfish. Lastly, some read-only participants may not be convinced that the course will benefit them and may not want to put the time or effort into the course work. The question is are these non-participants still legitimately learning and that conclusion wavered from yes to no in various…

The four most important aspects of my role as a peer tutor would be showing leadership, communication, flexibility and having a positive impact on students. Each of these aspects are important and all contribute to my role as a peer tutor, without any of them I don't think I would perform as well in the classroom. Showing leadership and having a positive impact on others have changed over the course of the semester. At the beginning of the semester my leadership skills weren't as inclined as they currently are. Over the course of the semester, I have gained confidence and demonstrated leadership and initiative while peer tutoring. Also, I saw a change in how students approached me; they are presently more comfortable asking me questions in…

It is of equal importance that educators create an environment that is fun, yet respectable. Teachers should demonstrate a strict classroom management approach in the beginning and gradually encourage more smiles and laughter. This deviation from the norm reminds the students and teacher that a classroom can become a comfortable environment. However, this method can be altered at the teacher’s discretion. A relaxed classroom atmosphere gives the teacher an approachable disposition.…

Yes, last week was really difficult for me! I'm pursuing my degree in nursing through Arizona College and doing my prerequests through Keiser University, so I was able to take advantage of the free tutoring available at Arizona College. I put my kids in daycare for the week and I was at the Arizona College campus from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. studying and being tutored. I feel that I understand the concepts that we are studying each week, however the math portion is what I'm having a hard time with since I havent taken a math class in about ten years. I feel that I'm able to do the problems but they are taking me a long time to complete and since the time frame for the test is fifty minutes I run out of time and I'm left guessing on some of the…

One of the benefits of having a tutoring program is that it will enhance the academic performances of our athletes. According to an article in Time magazine, 85% of students who have tutoring tend to do much better in school. This is significant because that is exactly what the school wants for their students; for them to do better. I always hear teachers say that extra time spent on a subject brings forth understanding. As the students revisit the areas in which they have trouble, they will gradually understand it.…

I have had the chance to serve as a tutor, a peer advisor, and as a teaching assistant for a variety of courses while I was an undergraduate and in my current role as an AmeriCorps VISTA. Through these positions, I had to chance to lead class periods and I have found that I enjoy teaching at the university level, as compared to the times that I have helped with elementary and middle school classes. I fully enjoy seeing students finally understand a concept they have had trouble with and connecting students with their passion. Watching them take that spark and ignite it into something much larger than themselves has been one of the most rewarding…
