PERCY JACKSON THE LIGHTNING THEIF
PERCY JACKSON THE LIGHTNING THEIF By RICK RIORDAN

Percy Jackson the lightning thief is a fictional story about ancient Greek mythology and adventure! The main character of the story is Percy Jackson son of Poseidon, the “sea god” which makes him a demigod or half-blood if you want to call it that. Another important character is Grover. Grover is Percy Jacksons best friend, and his protector, he is a satyr. A satyr is a half man half goat. Last Important character is Annabeth, daughter of Athena; which makes her a master of war combat. My favorite part of the story is when a Minotaur kills Percy’s mom and Percy Jackson kills the Minotaur. It is crazy because he kills the creature with one of its own horns! A Minotaur is a big bull type of creature, sent from Hades. Hades is the ruler of the underworld or “Hades” as they call it. Percy Jackson goes on this amazing journey with his friends Grover and Annabeth to save his mother from Hades and prove that he is not the lightning thief. The lightning thief is actually Luke, another demigod from camp half-blood. Luke is the son of Hermes, the messenger for the gods. Apparently Luke wanted to start a war among the Gods. This story is filled with great adventure, mystery, and excitement! All through out the story it kept me on my toes. I saw the movie and read the book and I noticed that there were a lot of differences, but for the most part the plot stayed the same. On my movie poster it shows a part in the story, which I like, dislike, and was confused about. What I liked about it is when Percy killed the Minotaur. The part I disliked is when I thought his mom Sally died. This part also confused me because I did not know she was still alive.

S.E. Hinton was only 15 years old when she wrote this extremely detailed book. I liked her book a lot because of how much detail she put into it. I didn’t like the movie a lot because I was kind of expecting it to be a lot like the book but was disappointed when it left out many different parts of the book. While the book and movie have many similarities and differences, the book was more effective in telling the story.…

Percy is not just like Perseus because their names sound alike. They are alike in other ways as well. Like Perseus, Percy was saved because he had a god watching over him. In “ The Great Heroes Before the Trojan War” it says, “ But Perseus was saved from his folly. Two great gods were watching over him.”(Hamilton 145). This same thing happened to Percy when he was battling Anabeth. She had beaten him up pretty badly and Percy had lay there…

Percy Jackson is the main protagonist of the last Olympian. Percy isn’t greed at because he turned down god hood. “Oh, not you although I suppose I should wonder turning down immorality” (Riordan, 355) after defeating Kronos he was given a offer to be a god. He is also funny “With great power... comes great need to take a nap. Wake me up later”. Making funny remark and one liner makes him a funny character in general, this funny one liner was said after he obtained the curse of Achilles and they were outside the underworld. Percy is also caring for his friends and he would do anything to protect them. Everyone is great in their own way, even those who may not realize it or appreciate it. In the end, your worth will show in some way. In the book, The Lightning Thief, I thought I that it was about a boy named Percy who has dyslexia and ADHD that always gets into trouble. Then, Percy learns that his dad is the sea god Poseidon. Afterwards, Percy finds out that Zeus has accused him of stealing his lightning bolt. Now, Percy must go on a quest with his new friends to find Zeus's lightning bolt so that there isn't another world war. He also wants to save his mom who has been taken to the Underworld. Now, I think Rick Riordan is trying to teach us that everyone has great worth, even those who feel different and unappreciated.…

In my honest opinion I did not like this book and I do not recommend it. The story itself is magnificent but the fact that it is 100% based off of the movie makes it pointless to read. They could have thrown in more deadly obstacles to face and made it worth reading. Overall it had more weaknesses than strengths. Strengths I can give is that if you haven’t seen the movie, then the book could definitely give you exactly what you’ve missed out on. It is a great story and is more than your average adventure tale. Reading it really does make you feel like you were a kid again, running around and being creative.…

References to Greek mythology pervade much of popular Western culture, and although some allusions may go unnoticed for those without a background in mythology. The study of classical mythology is not a standardized, widespread component of education, and thus there is a gap in understanding of these references for many people. One book that sought to popularize Greek mythology amongst young students was Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief, which topped the children’s bestsellers lists just under ten years ago. Percy Jackson, a teenager living in New York City, is the protagonist in this novel and embodies the Greek hero Perseus in his relationship with his mother and the quest on which he embarks. While any competent reader can understand the…
