Personal Narrative: Automotive Technology Internship
I looked at the application packet, and on it it said, Automotive Technology Internship. “Awesome,” I thought, I quickly applied for the program, and one month later, I got the email that said, “Congratulations, you made it into the Automotive Technology Summer Exploration Program!” I thought that it would be a regular summer program, but I as my summer past by quickly, it had affected me in ways I would have never guessed.
At school, I have never really spoken up and usually keep to myself, with the exception of opening up to my friends. It was and still is very hard for me to branch out and connect with people I am not familiar with. However, as I started my automotive program, all of that slowly changed. In my class of fourteen, I

I can remember when I did my undergrad internship at a rehabilitation center; the Physical Therapist explained to me that if a person has ruptured their Achilles tendon, calf raises were one the best exercises. This exercise was potentially one of the best due to it strengthening the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles. He also explained that many runners should focus on strengthening exercises, simply because of the wear and tear running they are more susceptible to this type of injury.…

The narrative, The Driver’s Seat struck home for me because I just received my driver’s license this past May, 2015. I took time for me to actually drive and to become comfortable behind the wheel of a car. This piece of writing spoke to me and allowed me to review some of the identical thinking points that I went through while getting to the point of taking control of my dad’s car. The story effectively walked me through the trials of spirit and mental anguish that preceded me in taking hold of the vehicle with my dad as the co-pilot giving directions. This was the exact thing the driving instructor in The Driver’s Seat‘ taught the author. The routine of how to maneuver and throw caution to the wind- taking risks- to get the author over…

I have always been known as the kid with unending football knowledge. That, along with the fact that I had been hosting my own radio show for two years at the time, left me with great confidence going into my NFL Network internship. At the end of the day, I had written four segments, all of which I was very proud of. I never imagined that all four would be rejected.…

Life can be a treacherous journey that even the toughest people have trouble making it through. No one, not even the greatest superheros can get through it alone. We all need some sort of mentor. Someone like Mr. Miyagi was to Karate Kid and Athena was to Odysseus. I am no different, a mentor’s job is to lead and guide you through whatever life throws your way. My mentor has done that and much more. Normally it seems most mentors either come from different ethnicities or cultural backgrounds but, not in this case. Me and my mentor share a ton of the same characteristics and traits. Although he is older and much more wiser, we are still close enough in age to experience and enjoy some of the same cultural activities. One of them being checking…

At college you see many new faces, and dealing on their personality you can social be open to that person. I always treat people the same respect I should give. I’m my observation; there are people here at Central Michigan University are very shy dealing with meeting new people. Becoming shy is only going to hinder you from become an open person? For my freshmen year, I was pretty shy; I didn’t know how people were going to take my personality. I didn’t really hangout with new people because I didn’t want to be in that awkward moment between a people that I don’t know. But I started to go out of my comfort zone and meet new people. Many people judge you off your looks. But you need to get to know the person and then make a judgment. Another part that I apply to my life is appreciating diversity. In college we surround ourselves with people who have similar personality and abilities like us. But college is the place where you can get to know other ethnicity group’s sexual orientation. The value of diversity is to appreciate the rich background and obtain knowledge and understanding this rich world. Growing up my mother always say don’t judge a book by its cover because stereotyping and discrimination can be offensive to people in…

This experience taught me numerous new things that shaped who I was and altered the way I returned to my community, Los Angeles. The most important thing I learned at this internship was the ability to “fit into” this new way of life. While studying abroad, I believe that this skill I gained from my internship will allow me accommodate and adapt easily to the new culture. I also learned from this internship how to properly communicate with new people in general, but also with people who may not be familiar with my own culture and lifestyle. This new skill will also allow me to communicate and connect with other students while abroad by expressing an interest in who they are. I will also be able to grow a connection with my peers by showing them a bit of my culture and help them learn a new way of life.…

I can see this internship at State Farm affecting my career goals in a positive way as it will provide me with many experiences that I have never been exposed to before in my life. In the STEM academy I have learned how to work with others to accomplish one goal and how to present our achievements to our peers, however the experiences that can be obtained by interning for a major employer is such a different experience than a school project and presentation. These experiences can affect my career goals in the technology field as this internship might determine whether I want to continue my studies or switch to another field before it is too late for me to do so.…

During my freshman year, I wore all black, didn’t talk to many people, and I kept to myself unless someone spoke to me. Since I had never lived in a small town, I had no experience in talking to small-town folks. It sounds ridiculous, but the stereotypes I was given before I left my old school led me to believe that my time in this town would be painfully awkward and lonesome. As I went into my sophomore year, I became more comfortable with the people around me and I spoke more and more. At the end of my sophomore year, I had made a lot more friends than I started off with. By the time I started junior I had become the outgoing person I claim to be now. I wasn’t afraid to talk to people anymore and it was a great time for me. Now, I have plenty of people to talk to and people come up to me in the hallways and speak to me. I am now a senior and I, metaphorically speaking, have transitioned into the beautiful butterfly. I don’t really have anything I truly want to change about myself. I will be heading off to college soon and I am fairly comfortable enough with who I am to be assured that I will be…
