I looked up one last time to see my teammate stepping onto home plate. This was it, I was almost there. I pushed myself forward, causing my lungs to burn even more. I had the feeling of forgetting how to breathe, and every muscle in my body ached. I felt like stopping to catch my breath and rest, but I couldn’t. I was so close to reaching my goal, so close to having my dream come true, one more step and it would be all over.
Home plate was only a few strides ahead of me, and I realized that this was it. I slammed my foot onto the plate, thinking to myself that I made it. Suddenly everything around me was loud. My hearing finally returned and I could hear the crowd cheering for me. I ran to the fence and found myself searching for his face.
