Personal Narrative: My Blue Heron
Today was one of the most spine-tingling, and frightening days of my life. The butterflies in my stomach had took it upon themselves to flutter their wings a little faster today. It’s always exciting to meet new people,it’s just unnerving at the same time.

I walked up to the front desk with a nervous smile painted across my face. I gave a man my bags, and let them put a tag on it, while a short lady over-excitedly welcomed me. She pushed her over-sized glasses over the bridge of her nose, then quickly scrambled down some words on a paper. She handed me the paper and told me that it would help me find my cabin.

I step out of my grandmother's car and take in a deep, nervous breath of the Pennsylvania air. It was the first day of camp at

I walked in to what was seemingly modern for what i thought camp would be. It had nice hardwood floors and separate showers. The bunk beds looked about new, and had actual mattresses on it. As i was walking in, another over-enthusiastic girl welcomed me. She told me her name was Alexa and she would be my counselor. I said hello and told her my name was Hannah as i rushed over to the farthest bunk. My bags had made it here before i did, which was no surprise, so i unpacked my things taking only one shelf for myself. Once every girl was there, we all had to play the most common game, when coming to a new place, and introduce ourselves. After that, we chugged ourselves back up a steep hill to get to a building the called the …show more content…
I walked back to the cabin and took a shower. I put some night clothes on and climbed up into my bed. I sprawled myself out across my bed and i just started to daydream. I did that a lot. JUst imagine a happier place when i felt sad. I layed my head down on my pillow and closed my heavy eyes.

When i woke up it was morning and i felt better. I got up and took a shower. Then, when the entire cabin was ready we went up to the A-frame. WE ate breakfast and then headed to a deep part in the woods. The counselor explained to us that we were going to play a game called Instincts. After that they said something about directions, but i zoned out and started daydreaming again. Next thing i know i hear someone yell GO, and i sat there confused. I tapped the person closest to me on the shoulder, not realising that it was the girl i had pushed into the pool.

“ Do you know where the boundaries are, i wasn't really paying attention?”, i asked her, kind of regretting

I heard a boat so I screamed so more and no one was there. I was hoping someone was coming. I stayed there for what felt like hours, so I decided to walk around and look at the island. The day was sunny and bright as I entered the iron arch. Rocky River Ranch it read. Little did I know that after walking through that arch my life would never be the same again. I was only 12 years old and I thought I was simply going to another summer camp. Rocky River Ranch is a little slice of heaven in the middle of the hill country in Wimberley, TX. I have grown up here and made lifelong friends. Through this all-girls camp I’ve also learned independence and gained a deeper appreciation for friendship and sisterhood. As an only child, the feeling of camaraderie with others in a familial sense is not one that I felt. While I had fellow female cousins, I never had true sisters. Rocky River Ranch is a special place where I learned the importance…

Two friends and I climbed out of a car, stretching our legs and gathering our luggage. It was Sunday, and the end of our two day journey from my hometown in Connecticut to The Summit, a high adventure/service Boy Scout camp in West Virginia. The anticipation I had felt during the long trip quickly changed to apprehension and awe as I gazed…

“Yes mom, I know where to go”, Simon sputtered as he hung up and drove himself along with his little sister, Lydia, to East Glacier Falls summer camp. Their mom had seen an advertisement in the paper a few months back about after school recreational activities boosted cognitive power and improved test scores, but he thought that was made up by summer camps to get concerned parents to spend excessive amounts of money. As he pulled up and started to unload the luggage from the trunk he noticed a girl around his age limp over to the car and greet his sister. Walking over, he politely greets the girl and she introduces herself as Carmen. The children socialize briefly before the camp counselor hurried them to the mess hall. Once all the young campers…

Haruki Murakami, a contemporary Japanese writer, confronts the contradictions of modern Japanese identity in his novel, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, to depict the desolate mood of Japan after World War II. Identity loss and solitude surfaced due to the drastic decrease in population following the atomic bombings in Japan. As argued by Historian Rielly (2010) in Kamikaze Attacks of World War II, this loss of identity has resulted in countless suicides across various regions of Japan, such as the Okigahara forest (9). The recurring theme of war in the novel asserts the importance of individualism as a key component within Japan’s conformed society. Haruki Murakami utilizes symbolism, motif, and allegories throughout The Wind-up Bird Chronicle…

November 22, 2014 was a rather chilly day for going outside. The autumn skies were a pale blue with an overcast that had been drifting for days. The leaves had already turned and were beginning to settle for a long winter. Megan, and few other friends and I had thrown an ugly Christmas sweater party the night before and decided to make it a sleepover. Once we had woken up and retrieved our hot breakfast and warm coats, we stepped into the cool, fall morning air. The plan was to finally show my friends an old girl scout camp that was shut down in the early 1900s. The camp was pretty successful at first, but sadly shut down due to the drowning of a young 13 year old girl who had been swimming in a lake nearby. All of my friends found it extremely fascinating so we decided to take a look around the abandoned campground.…

The three of us approached the sign-in table manned by a cheery college co-ed who pointed us in the direction of my camp section. My father backed up the family station wagon as close as he could to my assigned cabin and lugged out a green footlocker, which I’d been given that March for my birthday, along with a DeSoto brochure and card from my parents informing me they’d enrolled me in the June…

I woke up hazed with blurred vision. The right side of my face was dried and burned. The left side of my face was soaked in salt water and blood. I was freaked out and picked up my head and blinked rapidly. I saw nothing but blue for miles and miles, the sky and the water. When I looked down I saw nothing but a small black and orange rubber dingy. I tried to think about what had happened. It was then when I realized I couldn't even remember my own name. Then panic just settled in for some reason I jumped in the water freaking out. I came to my senses and quickly started using all my strength to hurdle myself in the dingy.…

When I look at this picture, I see a tree trunk filled with butterflies only some of the Monarchs are colored. The fact that only the natural light highlights some of the butterflies is so alluring. Staring at the photo makes me ponder how many astonishing things our planet has to offer. Not only that but I think about all the marvelous things I see every day but look over because I am too focused on my cellphone or my fast paced life. The compelling hues of blue that pop through the trees gives the photo power because it helps pull focus on the butterflies in the center. The photo is of butterflies and it was so compelling when I first viewed it that I got butterflies in my stomach. I was in awe of the raw power and beauty in the photo. Emotions…

Hi, I’m Cody Jones. I’m really excited because today is the big day! My 2nd grade class and I are going to the Mythical Creature Zoo. We, here at the Mythical Creature Academy, are in the process training to be zookeepers there. At the zoo, there are SO many cool creatures! There are: hydras, Minotaurs, Hippogriffs, a unicorn petting zoo, mermaid aquarium with Kelpies and a Kraken, a Sphinx, and even a Centaur. Because Miss Taylor is such a good teacher, she taught us ALL about the cool creatures. Some things she taught me were: to not pet the Hippogriffs until they trust us, and that mermaid tears become aquamarine jewels! I think I’m set for this amazing trip to the MCZ!…

Well, my family and I went on the MSC Sinfonia ship cruise with some of my sister’s boyfriend’s family. On Saturday everyone met at the Durban harbour to board the ship, we boarded the ship at 11am and they gave us lunch as soon as we were all settled in. The food was lovely. After lunch we went back to our cabins and they had an emergency drill, it was so much fun but a little scary at the same time, I loved the thrill. After the drill my mum n my sisters and I went to the deck of the ship to swim in the pool, at 5pm we went back to our cabins to bath and change in to our evening formal clothes. We went to the restaurant for supper. After supper we went to watch a show in the sinfonia lounge, after the show everyone went their separate ways. So my sisters went with their boyfriends my mum had gone with all the adults so I went exploring. I started at deck of the ship going down and as you could have guessed I got lost. I was so scared I was on the 6th floor and there was no one in sight. The 6th floor was the biggest floor on the ship, so I couldn’t even find the stairs. I began to hear weird and strange noises, I was about to cry and just then something puts its hand on my shoulder and I start to scream, and as I turned around I saw my sisters boyfriends cousin Ashish and Nickeel standing there and laughing. I was so relieved to see them but at the same time throw them over board for scaring me like that. I told them how I got lost and what I was doing there on my own, they then took me back to the deck were everyone was and didn’t leave me to wonder of alone…

As I sat in the room, it was comfortable. There was a fire place to my left, a huge glass window behind me, pictures on the wall of rainforests and baby animals and two very comfortable sofa seats. There was a slight smell, an aroma of lavender, a candle burning in the corner and the perfect sound of silence. As I waited in the counselor’s room, my heart began to race, my palms became sweaty and I could feel the anxiety. The door swung open, the sight of a large shadow became obvious and the sound of her voice was clear. “Good morning Alison” she said “My name is Julie and today I don’t want you to worry about anything that is said in this room, everything is totally confidential” I sat back in…
