I think my service at Children’s is very important because I have contributed a lot of time and energy. I enjoy it very much and I am glad I started volunteering there. Saturday February 27 was different because I had to deliver mail to the NICU and that experience was surreal. As I walked around in the unit, I saw many premature and newborn infants with various tubes and wires stuck to them. Nurses were carrying the babies and parents were asleep holding their babies’ hands. The entire unit was dim and the only sounds I could hear were the beeping of the machines the babies were hooked up to or the faint murmurs of the doctors talking to the parents. Walking through that unit made me realize that I am part of something bigger and could be part of something even bigger.
I was glad to start volunteering at a place where I want to work in the future and my volunteer experience has given me many opportunities such as an internship I did last spring at the hospital. It helped me realize my passions and I would definitely recommend others volunteering at the hospital or places where they would like to see themselves in the future to help them completely understand what their life will be like. Volunteering here has been a wonderful experience and I would like to do something like all my
life.
