survive.
At the time of the bombings I was stationed at the Nellis Air Force Base located in Nevada just North of Las Vegas. I was organizing papers when my Base commander dramatically announced, “this is it everyone the end is upon”.Not knowing what he meant by that I continued my work.A few seconds later I heard the alarm warning everyone that the U.S had been attacked. Confused and anxious everyone at the base went rushing to the commander for
answers. Crowded and disorganized everyone at the base demanded answers quickly. Commander Henderson who had a worried look on his face said, “Everyone drop everything you’re doing and follow me we need to evacuate the base”.The crowd who had no idea what was going on began to prepare for the worst thinking they were about to enter a battlefield. By that time I had found my squadron who were just as confused as I was. Everyone immediately began to follow Commander Henderson near the end of the base where there was a strange pile of rocks assorted in a unnatural way.Once there commander Henderson began to remove the rocks where he unveiled a mysterious hatch. On the hatch there were was a dirty old sign that said for emergencies only. Everyone there still had no clue what was going or if everything was okay. Commander Henderson asked for everyone to quiet down as he began to look nervous. Once everyone had stop talking, Commander Henderson said, “everyone we are in a great danger I’ll explain everything once we are safe but for now we must hurry into this bunker”.The commander began to open up the hatch where behind the hatch was a ladder leading straight down into nothing but darkness. One by one everyone began to ascend down the steel ladder having no idea where they would end up. Commander Henderson then ordered everyone to move quickly or else everyone was going to end up dead. Within just 4 minutes everyone had gone down the ladder, as the last person went down commander Henderson began to close the hatch where the last ray of sunshine was gone. Down the ladder everyone went down not knowing what had happened to the Earth. Once at the bottom of the ladder no one knew where they were or what they had got themselves into. I was just as confused as everyone else not knowing that the commander had saved everyone’s life. At first the bunker was cold and pitch black but somehow there was room for everyone. Finally the commander had switched the lights on where he unveiled where everyone was at. As the lights continued to turn on, everyone become amazed seeing something they had never seen before.
