Personal Narrative: My First Play Football
It was Thursday, September 29, 2016, and the Benedictine Cadets were playing the Liberty

Christian Bulldogs. The team had just gotten off the bus to Liberty Christian and my heart was pumping. I

was ready to play some football. Following warm-ups, it was game time. Of course, the first play was for me, the tailback.

It was forty-four gorilla our most popular play. Immediately following the snap of the ball,I took the ball from the quarterback with

authority and confidence. I ran right, cut back to the left and was finally wrestled down after sprinting for a ten-yard gain. The fans were

as rowdy as ever. We ran a few similar plays to me, to feed my hunger for yards, that had similar results.

The drive concluded after our quarterback sneaked into to the end zone for

"Boom" was the sound the football made when being

kicked off to begin the second half began. Not for the Cadets, however. I could not get any running

room. Our quarterback could not find any receivers, and even worse our defense gave up 27

points before the game ended. I could only think of one word,

“Ignominious.” We were better than them, I thought. We had better athletes and were crushing

them in the first quarter.

Nevertheless, I was confuzzled about they beat us, but then I remembered a quote.

I don’t remember what his name was, but I remember thinking of that quote when the game

ended. It was, “ You cannot just win games physically, you have to win mentally as well.” I then

understood how truthful this quote really was. That quote was the only thing I could think about

from then on. I thought that is what we need to do to win. So when I got into the car to start my

journey home those words echoed in my head. “ You cannot just win game physically, you have

to win them physically

That doesn’t go as plan and he gets sacked in the backfield. GC fans are terrified because we just lost a few yards, but it isn’t over just yet. The team huddles up and the quarterback calls another play. Its looks like we’re going to run the same play that gave us a gain of fifteen. The center hikes the ball and just like before, he gives it to the running back. Everyone in the stands trying to look past all the players on the field to see where the ball is going. Suddenly, we see a black jersey come out of a pile of other jersey. As fast as lighting Greene County is running down the field aiming for a touchdown. The announcer once again “he’s at the thirty, the twenty, the ten, touchdown!” That seals the deal with only a minute left until halftime. Washington Wilkes fans sits with disgust all over their faces. Our rivalry that thought were going to blow us out, now has to go into half-time with a tied game. The fans happy as ever, can now go into the third quarter with all hopes that we can win the game. The band now playing the Greene County Tigers theme song, “Eye of the Tiger”, in good…

We had made it clear to each other that he would not go unavenged. We had enough passion to fight the world if we felt absolutely necessary and we went on through what seemed like a war that weekend. Through blood, sweat, and injury, we battled for that title. The championship match came in our grasps and tensions were high for the entire game since we didn't only want to win for us, but for our coach who had recently resigned. After a game full of devastating hits and elaborate set plays, we lost after an undefeated run of 5-0-0, but we fought to the death and left it all out on the field. No regret in our heads would ever go opposite the way we played in that title match because Coach Day had educated us all that no matter how exceptionally skilled at something you believe you are, you will never progress without putting your entire willpower to the task. Without passion, you fight for nothing. Passion is what will drive you through every hill and valley of your life. From that day onward, all I have done has been for a reason and I have strong-armed my way through thick and thin to be successful in my life and I plan to extend this through my entire college career and lifetime. I will at no time give up on what I believe is crucial, similar to being successful in that tournament for my…

We were missing a few players because of grades or being out of town. Being a freshman, I didn’t think that I would get in very much but maybe a little. However, I was still really nervous for the game. Once we got to the locker room, we talked about our game plan-don’t have quick possessions that don’t result in anything but a turnover. If we did that, we would be…

The running back was right there. When I went in for the tackle I got hit. I dropped. Sitting there thinking "what the hell just happened". It turned out to be my buddy that smoked me in the head. I also remember the other team saying "ooooo". “LET’S GO BOYS!!!! LET’S WIN THIS!!! BEAT THESE RAVENS!!!!!!” The crowd was screaming and chanting wildly as we began to run out of the locker rooms and onto the large football field. I lead them, raising my arms up and down to signal the crowd to get louder with their cheers. As I did this, I was also sprinting to the middle of the field through the large slit that was cut for my eyes. I turned back to the crowd in the stands, and the players ran around me, with smiles of their faces, to get to their positions and the bench. I started to jump and raise my arms, “ FROGGY!!! FROGGY!!! FROGGY!!!” They all chanted my name in union, some of them even had signs and horns! A large smile crept onto my face behind my large mascot mask, and I couldn’t…

This included checking every strap and button on our pads, making sure we had our shoelaces, and making sure everyone’s minor injuries were taken care of with the trainer. Normally we would have time to sit outside the locker room and hang out with all of our friends and joke around, but Coach Owens stopped that quickly today and made everyone go inside. As I walked into the quarterback meeting, some of our key plays were drawn on the board. These seemed all to familiar for me, because I spent the whole night before with Sam, our other quarterback, going over our playbook and knowing where everyone is supposed to be on the field for each play. The next meeting I had to attend was the special teams meeting. I was used to these since I had been attending these since my freshman year as a starter on varsity as both the kicker and punter. Everything was the same. Making sure every hole was blocked for field goals and punts, making sure no one over-pursued on kick-off coverage, and just making sure we got the kick off without getting it…

We played a lot of games that day, having tournaments or just playing regular pick-up games for fun. Eventually some of us got bored of playing basketball and decided to play football but no one had a football, so we weren’t going to play. Then someone said he lived real close and could go get a football. My brother didn’t want to play football and recommended I didn’t play but I like football more than basketball so I told him I wanted to play.…
