Personal Narrative: My First Rotation

My first rotation was at the Little Falls Orthopedic Center. I was with Marge and Linda in the radiology unit but later in the week I did float without the center. My first day was with Linda and it very slow with only one X-Ray patient. I did not mind to much due to the fact I was sick with the flu and later went home due to it. The next day I was with Marge because Linda was sick with the flu, incidentally. We saw many patients thus I learned a lot about the X-Ray system and how to position patients. I did float with other providers the following days. While with the other providers I saw many things including a cast being taken off, an exam, and multiple injections. Something interesting that happened even though I didn't witness it was
a patient had synovial fluid taken out of their knee. I didn't see it being extracted but later I saw the fluid itself. Overall it was a nice flow of patients with a good assortment of things to watch. I was impressed with the amount of communication between nurses and providers. They had flags with various colors that meant, when out, what service was needed and who was the provider. It seemed there was always something to tell who ever was needed, that they were needed. For example when we had a new X-Ray patient a nurse would place the file in a folder so that we would know we were needed. Also, it appeared that everyone worked together well, and to a point, read each other's minds. There isn’t a significant way they would improve in anything that I can think of. In general I enjoyed my week there because of the interesting work and people who I was with.
