Personal Narrative: My First Year At Hawthorn
During my first year at Hawthorn, I would get into trouble all the time for reading in class, and not paying attention to the lesson. It wasn’t like serious trouble. In Parent/Teacher conferences, the teacher would tell on me because of my reading in class, but they said it was kinda funny to see me reading; I could be doing something a lot worse.

Toward the end of my first year at Hawthorn-the present, I started reading much thicker books; I love to read books. My favorite genre is fictional, but I like reading non-fictional, and occasionally, I like to read biographies. Sometimes I would imagine just being one of the characters in the books series that I’m reading now. Reading at an early age I think had an positive effect on me it

“Books are uniquely portable magic,” Stephen King wrote in On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft. I quite agree with this view. In retrospect, the genres of books which I read gradually varied as of aged. Additionally, those books which I have read, broadened my horizon and improved my comprehension ability to some degree.…

Although there is much I can’t recall from my early days of reading, there are some momentous flashbacks. When I was beginning elementary school my parents were very eager to introduce me to doing a great deal of reading, they wanted me to enjoy reading for a while and they succeeded. We lived within walking distance of the public library which allowed us to frequently visit the library to read and check out books. I always remembered the vast shelves of books that seemed like they never had an end. In addition to reading at the library we checked books out to bring home to read, this allowed me to read as much as I wanted to. Correspondent to the amount of reading I did, the more I enjoyed it and improved at reading.…

I’ve always responded well to words, so it was no surprise that Verbal-Linguistic is my highest intelligence. People who are high in this intelligence think in words, enjoy reading and writing in their free time, have highly developed auditory skills, and can be taught well through words, directions, and books. Any of my friends could tell you that I love to read. Ever since I learned, I have devoured books like I’m starving. The summer before my 5th grade year I read the Percy Jackson series at least 9 times, and that doesn't include the many times I've reread it since. I currently always have a stack from the library waiting right by my bed, and a second more permanent pile of books I loved so much I…

Station Camp was five yards from the end zone when our defense flattened the running back, sending the football to the hands of the tackler. Our defense scored on that play to win the game 26-20 in overtime. The tumultuous crowd became so loud, we couldn't hear each other on the field; but truthfully, we did not need to speak. Who we were spoke so loudly that we did not need to hear each other. Numerous predictions claimed we should have lost that game alongside our already fearful fans. After losing nineteen talented starters in the class above us, an immense void was left to fill by few seniors. So why did we keep playing? The answer is that the visceral integrity ingrained within us would never allow us cease believing in ourselves and let adversity control the outcome of the game.…

My early literacy experience was not a big of a deal for me at an early age. When I was in school I always took a reading and writing course with a grain of salt, it was just one more class on my schedule. Literature did not really appeal to me in my early experience. I always think that why do I need to take a literature course in order for me to succeed in the future.…

The first books I ever started reading were Winnie the Pooh and Dr Suess books. When I was young my parents were really good about getting me started with reading different books and for a long time I loved reading, as long as it was books I got to choose and enjoyed reading myself. Once I got further along in school and they started mandating what books we had to read I got to the point where I didn’t find reading enjoyable any longer. I didn’t like most of the books my teachers were picking for us to read so I felt like I had to force myself to read them and it caused me to even stop reading books outside of school…

It started out like any other day. I got out of bed and scrambled to get out the door after I took an extra hour in the shower. I hopped into a seat next to my best friend Erin. We talked for the ten minute ride before finally arriving at school. I sat down in homeroom waiting for the bell to ring. Brrriinnngggg! I rushed to Mrs. Gregory’s room for Lit. Everything was fine until gym class. I had forgotten my assignment notebook in Mrs. Saphir’s room so I ran back upstairs to get it from under my chair. As I started to walk back towards the locker room I heard the bell ring… late! I walked into the locker room hoping Mrs. Dennis wouldn’t notice my tardiness, but my locker is right next to her office. I quickly filled out a minor for before…

Hearing that, it encouraged me to want to read more, and around that time was when Twilight was a huge thing, so naturally it peaked my interest and I finished the entire series within a week. From then on, I could easily pick up a book and read through it in a short amount of time. I would read in class (more or so during math class,) I would read at the dinner table, I would read at any given chance. As the more I read, the more my own personal library grew. In the summer between my seventh and eighth grade year, I read over 100 books and I enjoyed just about every single one of them.…
