Personal Narrative: My Relay Team
My head boomed from within, the loud noise of the speakers pierced my ears with a high-pitched ring.
As I hurled myself to the ground, I could sense something was not right. I had just finished running my leg of the 4x800 relay at the 2017 Mars Track Invitational. I looked up to see how the anchor runner, Bethany, was doing, but all I saw was dark, blurry spots. Bethany crossed the line,so I forced myself to stand and congratulate her as well as the rest of the relay team. I walked up to the top of the bleachers with the other members of the relay team, and I noticed that I was not walking straight. I lowered myself towards a seat. Everyone around me started to congratulating me, but all I could do was slowly shake my head. I had struggled with migraines in the past, and knew that today was going to be a harsh day for me. My dad walked me to the car, so I could lay down and escape the heat. I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
Right after I fell asleep, the car alarm sounded. My headache was now unbearable. I walked back over to the bleachers and sat down. The gun sounded for the 400-meter dash to begin. The 400-meter dash was two events before my last event, the 4x400 meter relay. My teammates from my relay walked over to me frantically. They

The relay began. By the time the third runner was approaching the end, we were only behind by a couple of meters. She handed me the baton, and I was off. My head was banging, but off of that,I thrived. I caught up with the girl in front of me. It came to the final stretch. I passed the girl and sprinted to the finish line. The relay team won first! The other girls on the relay cheered louder than any of the parents on the bleachers. We smiled with excitement and shock as we accepted our medals. I walked over to my coach to asked him my split for the relay. He told me it was my fastest 400 time, at

Screams of excruciating pain interrupted my slumber. Springing up from my sleeping bag, I looked in the direction where I heard the continued sounds of agony, broken bones, and ripping flesh. Quickly scanning the gym with my eyes, I saw that five of Kristine’s survivors became runners. In the bleachers, three of runners dugged their teeths into the survivor’s necks, faces, shoulders, who were lying peacefully and unexpected in their sleeping bags. In the middle of the gym’s basketball court, two more runners’ yanked meat and muscles from survivor’s faces, as the survivors attempted to fight back, however their attempts were useless, the runner’s strength over powered theirs. As one runner, in the middle of the gym, swallowed a survivor’s nose,…

It was incredible to see the channeling of so much effort and focus result in the exact achievement I had aimed for. As great a feeling as it was to have accomplished something I had dreamed of, it was far from completely satisfying. It was not long before the glory of one good championship race was erased and replaced with the anticipation of the next. Running has shown me that the only limits holding me back are the ones I entertain. My capabilities are in fact limitless and I can achieve anything I set my mind to.…

As I ran that hill I began to cry because of the pain. I thought my legs were going to give out from underneath me. The pain I was feeling helped me take a few strides that caused me to stumble a little, but soon regained my composure. I was at the top. All that was left was one last final turn, and then the downhill. I could see the finish line in the distance and then started sprinting. Coach Rojas was screaming at me to keep going and not to stop. At this point, my heart was pounding rapidly. My body was worn down, hot and exhausted. Crossing the finish line was the only thing on my mind. For a moment, I blocked off from the race and thought about all the hard work that went into the season. I crossed the finish line and at that moment I knew that I had put my sweat and tears into this race. I couldn’t feel my legs, all I wanted was water. Soon after I heard that we won Second place in the district which was the best the team has won. I felt no pain at this point since I was part of a group of people who loved this sport and put effort into it. It gave me happiness to be part of a team that now was like my…

I attempt to look at the board but it is obscured my waiting swimmers, coaches and officials. My coaches are screaming and holding up four fingers. I can’t believe it, I dropped four seconds. I beat out the girl on the opposite side of the pool by 0.10 seconds. I pull myself from the pool, my hands shaking and my knees weak and run to my friends as I get hugged, slapped on the back.…

The mantra, "breathe in your nose and out your mouth," was the only thing running through my head as I attempted to complete the last half mile of my first cross-country meet, and at least it was running. I on the other hand, was not. I had started the race completely confident in my ability to run three miles, but after a grueling two and a half laps of tripping over tree roots, splashing through mud, and struggling over an enormous hill that marked the last quarter of the lap, I was just ready to go home and take a shower. When my feet crossed onto the threshold of the track where the finish line was positioned, I observed quite a few things. One, the conspicuous red timer was flashing numbers well into the mid-forties range. Two, at least half of the buses in the parking lot seemed long gone. My third and final realization did not occur to me until after I crossed the finish line. As I came to a stop near the water cooler, it finally dawned on me that I had concluded the race in last place.…

My last event was the 200 meter dash and as I got set in my blocks my heart pounded. I was beyond nervous but I knew I had a point to prove. The race started and as I was running the only thing on my mind was crossing the finish line with a new and improved personal record. As I finished, I was out of breath and everything seemed blurry but all I could hear was my coach screaming in excitement. I heard him yell at the top of his lungs, “PR, You did it! I knew you could do it!” The entire night I thought back on my past and could not believe I had just ran the best time I ever had in four…

I felt like such a looser I wanted to cry, but I couldn’t because everyone had their eyes on me feeling like a dam about to burst. This was probably the most embarrassing moment of my life as I was on that track. I was about to walk off the turf and not finish, but then I started to he rhythmic clap from the audience and I knew it was for me. At that moment I started to jog to finish line. I had two forces fighting within me one wanting me to give up and there wanting to keep going forward and not letting people down. If the audience can put the effort to cheer me on, the least I can do is finish. I finally finish and I have never been so happy to finish something in my life.…

Throughout my high school career, I have been participating in at least one season of a running sport. It started freshmen year, when I decided to join the spring track team. I thought I would hate it, and only joined because I had nothing else to do after school. The first week of the season, I felt so behind and could not keep up with the pace that everyone else was already at. The first week of track is dedicated mostly to building up endurance and getting any new runners, like me, in shape, so there was not much running the first few days of practice. However, I decided to try another week before giving up. Once I started getting into the real running, everything changed. After I began to really run, I could not stop. I loved the feeling…

Some of the exchanges we went to were bigger than others. Like they had tents set up with venders selling running clothes and food, but others were empty. For my 5th leg I ran that race it was about 3am the next morning on the 26th of September and it was freezing, pitch black outside. I put on under armour leggings and long sleeves. I had to wear a neon vest while I ran with a flashing light on the back and a headlight just to see. This leg I ran was the “worst” run I have ever done in my life. I had to run 8 miles in pitch black alone, on a dirt road in the middle on the deep forest. The only encouragement I had was to keep running and if I heard a sound, run faster. I kept telling myself “You’re almost there, just a few more miles.” On the bright side I did see my van go by honking its horn. On the run about halfway through I started to get a rash between my legs because of all the sweat from running. It was the most annoying and painful thing in the world. I was wearing a watch that tells me the distance I had ran. I had a mile to go and I just felt pure relief. That last mile felt like the longest mile I've ever ran. It took me about 6 minutes to run that last…

I did moderately well in every event with no major falters despite my lack of recent practice. The most difficult event was the floor. This was the routine which had caused my injury two weeks before. Toward the end of this routine, I took an extra step which lowered my score by .5 points. While the judges calculated everyone’s scores to determine who would receive medals, I anxiously waited to find out whether I had qualified to compete at the regional competition. After what felt like hours, we finally had the awards ceremony where I received medals on the beam and all around. Though I was happy about the medals, my heart was shattered when I found out I hadn’t qualified for Regionals. My teammate Allie had beaten me by .5 points, causing her to qualify in my place. Initially, I felt a great deal of animosity toward Allie because I felt that I deserved to go to Regionals more than her after overcoming my injury. However, my anger subsided and was replaced with happiness for her and her accomplishment. When Regionals came, I traveled to Las Vegas with Allie and her family to support my teammates at the…
