The final gymnast that stuck out to me was Elena Arenas. As she mounted the unforgivable beam on the opposite side of the arena, you could hear all of the positive comments that all of the spectators were remarking her on. They would say, “She is the best, youngest, and most determined beam worker that I know in this country.” Plenty of people surrounding me had the most monumental thoughts about this young girl. As she was on the beam preparing for her flight series, she was uncontrollably shaking with nerves. Elena’s teammates, coaches, and supporters were cheering her on, as they knew that this was a new skill for her in competition. As she swung her arms back with incredible speed, the crowd was silent, waiting anxiously to see how this new skill had come along for her. When she finished the third and final flip in her series, her back foot slipped and caused her to wobble crazily. As she was falling to the ground beneath the beam, she reached out and caught the beam with her hands, hanging underneath the balance beam as if she were a monkey. She climbed back up offly rattled by her mistake. She continued her routine with incredible confidence as if nothing had happened. She stuck her landing with no movement, staying there for seconds to indicate that it was dead on to the judges and there were no errors that
