As I read through this book, I began to understand how I myself could transform a single writing assignment into something much bigger, something much more important. I felt the influence right away. I began to understand the significance of poetry to a greater degree. I…

My journey as a writer has not been as difficult as I thought it would. I have always had a passion for writing and telling my thoughts or stories. However, I have learned many things so far in this class.…
Throughout life you progress. Even if you fall and mess up you still live and learn. When I first came to the Wight Foundation I thought that I was the best I could be in my academics. However being in class and seeing others strive for greatness made me realize I could do more, and I did. I have improved greatly since the beginning of STEP physically and mentally.…
Every day I wake up determined to do more than I did the day before. My past achievements include gaining leadership skills, being on a varsity sport, and learning outside of school. I have been in tennis for eight years and varsity for three years, where I have received two awards for most improved player. I was accepted into the program “Trees for Tomorrow” where I learned how to manage and use natural resources in a classroom and in field studies. I participated in a new sport, a cross country ski team, where it taught me skills and strengthened my mind set about myself. My early years of high school, I was part of the backstage crew for a play, performed at my high school. The theatrical plays were terrible, under equipped, with barely…
I never imagine that I will take any academic award in high school or any time for all that matter. When I stepped excitedly and nervously into the stage to get my third academic letter award in high school, it was the most amazing moments in my life; and without a doubt, it was a fantastic fantasy in between my hands. Arriving at my new school excitingly, Marshall High School, I met my new counselor, who was the first person I met in school. She told me about the school system, the teachers, clubs/organization and my own classes; all that was eagerness and thrilling. We walked around the school; I started imagine who I will be and who I will be friends: one of the popular students, the normal students, or the losers.…

Since the early years of my educational background, writing presented itself to me as more of a chore than it did a creative hobby. Throughout the years, many teachers fell short in their attempts to inspire me to truly enjoy writing. These attempts, more of than not, included copious ammounts of academic writing, which perpetually solidified my view that the only way writing could be presented was in the form of a laborious chore. This was, of course,…
The Advancement of my writing has increased by an amount throughout the years.Although I had disinterest in writing at an early age it didn't stop me from pursuing improvement in that area .However giving writing a try never hurts to improve .Going through the struggles not knowing how to put together an essay ,until finally working it all out to finally put a writing piece together through the help of my writing teacher. The writing piece I have as a memento represents an important role in my writing development from being chosen winner for a writing contest ,going through hardships in writing process and receiving help from my writing teachers, this helped me in a way to develop me to become a good writer.…
As a high school senior I sat in my room trying to decide my future in a day among dozens of college pamphlets. Somewhere at the bottom of all of those brochures was one for Motlow State Community College. Not only was it at the bottom of my pile, but it was completely outside of my radar at the time. Now, so many months later, I am sitting in a room on the Motlow campus typing this. I never once imagined myself here. Nevertheless, attending this school and joining the honors program was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Going on outings with other members of the honors program allowed me to get to know my peers, and in turn allowed me to become more confident in both my verbal and social skills. This will impact my future tremendously…
As a child, I always found myself participating in creative activities. My siblings and I were always playing make believe from acting as if we were in college or grown up to running up and down our neighborhood’s sidewalks as secret spies on a mission to save the world! When I was first introduced to writing short stories in grade school, I became hooked because I could literally depict any image I wanted to and that sparked my 7 year old brain. There were always movies playing in my head; it was crucial to me to produce those visions. Now, as a senior in high school, I have become partial to not only writing fictional narratives but non-fiction narratives as well. I have applied and been accepted to Clark Atlanta University…
My first goal was to obtain my general Equivalency Diploma (GED) with the intentions of later attending college. It took me longer to achieve my goals, since I have had many personal obstacles in my way. At the age of 17, I became a married teenage single mother of a one month old baby. I did not have much of a family so I had to take care of my child on my own. My family was not the type to go to for help because they would take from someone leaving them helpless. Looking in the mirror one day after being knocked down for not cooking dinner, made me look into my soul through my eyes; I decided enduring a life with so much Domestic Violence that it was not for me.…
Writing has not always been a strong suit of mine. Even in the present moment I sometimes struggle with writing. I have done numerous papers, ranging from daily journals to argumentative essays. I will admit that the older I grew I realized that writing helps in many ways. It can be a form of stress relieving, which I sometimes take into consideration when I have sort of a lot going on mentally. Many writing assignments were about what I liked to do hobby-wise, what my plans were for the future career/ school-wise, how I felt about certain discussed subjects nationwide such as the election of a black president, the rights for gay marriage, as well as oversea discussions, like the human trafficking in Thailand.…
