Also, I had the experience and privilege of taking care for my younger brother Eliezer. He was 6 months old when he became critically ill and needed to be hospitalized; his doctor thought that Eliezer would not survive. After a few months he recovered, but because of his high level of malnutrition he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Growing up he could not move or speak; he spent years lying in bed, which caused painful pressure sores on his back that became infected. I helped my mom cure my brother sores and I used to give him all his medications through the day over a period of years. I always had the strength, patience and love to help my brother to get ahead during his illness. Going through this situation made me think that if I studied nursing I could help more people like my brother because I could acquire more knowledge and practice. Then, at age 17 I decided to leave Mexico, the country where I grew up, to come and live in the United States, with hopes of getting a better education to have brighter future. Becoming a military wife was a completely new thing for me and it was a little difficult for me to adapt at the beginning because not only my husband is in the military, I felt like in a way I was too. I had plans to start going to college again, but unfortunately the university with the nursing program I was interested in was too far away and we only had one vehicle, which my husband used to get to work. Instead, I started working for a plasma center called Biomat as a phlebotomist, to be able to gain some more experience in the medical field. In April 2016, my husband got orders to Fort Polk, Louisiana, where I finally found a college that has the school or program that I need and it is close to where we live. Unfortunately, I am currently not working and cannot afford to cover the cost of the nursing
