Persuasive Essay About School Lunches
Lousy lunches School lunches are healthy, right? The fact of the matter is school lunches are processed, malnutritious, and foul tasting. The systems in place to get children in school a low priced, well balanced meal isn’t living up to its potential. School lunches need improvement.
School lunches in high school consist of extruded chicken, “cardboard pizza”, and ribs containing fake bone shapes. The meals provided by the school are either processed, greasy, or lack flavor. For example the mozzarella stuffed breadsticks are so greasy they have to be thoroughly wiped off with a paper towel to be consumed. These cheese sticks made of thin bread and rubbery cheese are the main part of the meal which is unhealthy. The strawberries are served in a little plastic cups with loads of sugar mixed in. The school should buy products that are uncooked and unprocessed and cook these products. This process will lower the price and make the students happier and healthier.
Nutrition is always important when it comes to being happy and healthy. The school lunches are malnutritious. All of the fruits and vegetables served are canned. Kids would eat more fresh fruit because it taste better and will make them feel better. Fresh produce has over double the nutrients that canned goods contain. Almost everyday either extruded chicken, pizza, or burgers short of cheese is served. One time some kind of piece of pizza was on the menu monday, tuesday, and wednesday. Nobody could eat it on wednesday because they were tired of eating the “cardboard pizza”. Another time there was some sort of extruded chicken on the menu all week. When chicken tacos were served there was just meat and a taco shell. The toppings available were onions and peppers.
