According to Sandra Ford, director of food and nutritional services for Manatee County School District in Florida, her district might lose roughly $975,000 a year if her district makes the switch to more healthy food in the cafeteria. You might think that all this money going toward having healthier children is good, but at the end of the day that’s still a lot of money going toward school lunches. This means that a lot of taxpayer money will be headed towards this new concept of healthy food in the cafeteria. You may think that 1 million dollars is nothing for the government, but take in the fact that the United States is already 10 trillion dollars in debt. This would just be adding more fuel to the flame. Even though, that a lot of students may be affected negatively by this because of the amount of calories they would be losing. The USDA says that they pay $2.93 to students that qualify for the free meal plan. So over time this amount of money can reach into very high numbers causing even more tax money to go into this healthy food plan.
