Should kids have year round school or should kids have a summer break? It depends on who you ask. Kids should have summer break for these three reasons, kids can recover from academic and social pressures of school, summer vacation is in our culture it’s an American tradition creating long lasting memories, the extra time off during the school year can be a big stress reliever.
The third reason kids should have summer break is so that kids can recover from academic and social pressures of school. According to Spier and Singleton, however, Summer vacation one of the biggest problems is not having to get your kid to school on time. In fact, not having to get up in the morning. could not have a better feeling than sharing food with your friends and family (Spier and Singleton). As a student, a kid can use his or her time in the summer to do what they want like travelling, spending time with their family, or working on their hobbies. Usually they do not have time for this because of their school studies. Even though, as a kid having school studies can be stressful they can spend time with friends and family can help relieve that stress. According to Spier and Singleton, having warmer weather can help your kids go outside more. Your family can be more relaxed and healthy from spending time outside. Also, not getting up in the morning is also a big help you are able to sleep in with no worries of being woken up by the alarm clock (Spier and Singleton). For us kids sleeping in without having to get up early can be a blessing to some. While you are also able to enjoy having breakfast with your family, instead of your parents struggling to wake you up to get a shower so you don’t miss the bus or be late for school. The first reason kids should have summer is the extra time off during the school year can be a big stress reliever. According to Chu, while it is important to relax during summer break it also can recharge your kids “batteries” for the fall quarter. However, without a break, nonstop work during the school year can lead to us kids being burnt out and being less motivated during the academic year (Chu). Being a kid most of us can be burnt out quickly. Breaks should be included for us kids to be working to our fullest without being tired or not being able to concentrate in school. According to Chu, free time will help foster the often overlooked creativity during the school year and will make well-rounded individuals. Students can benefit from it by focusing on themselves on summer vacation by working on personal projects or by reading (Chu). Working on projects can help pass a kid’s time by giving them something to work on like panting or having a book to read. Going out side is another option to pass the time during summer vacation. The second reason for having summer break is Summer vacation is an American tradition for families in the United States.
According to “School summer break- good or bad?” Having traveling time can bring excitement, joy, and memories to a family. While traveling in the summer your able to have a barbeque you cannot get a better feeling then spending time with your friends and family while sharing food (“School summer break- good or bad?”). Having summer vacation can be happiness to you and your family. According to “School summer break- good or bad?”, while spending time at the beach, you are able to experience great feelings from swimming or relaxing with your family (“School summer vaction break- good or bad?”). while on vacation you can sleep past your alarm you normally set for school, also you are able to enjoy breakfast as much as you like with your family. According to “School summer break- good or bad?”, having warmer weather can affect your time spending with your family. It will cause them to go outside more (“School summer break- good or bad?”). While having warmer weather it is possible to go swimming if a pool is around your area or if you own one. While swimming your parents are able to watch you while they hang out with their own friends while you have your own
fun. However, having year round school can give kids a chance to catch up in their studies if they don’t understand them. According to Daniel Luzer, during summer vacation kids can lose up to a month of instruction overtime (Luzer). While keeping kids out of schools for summer there is no academic structures going on during that time so year round school can keep that information they learn in their mind while giving them new material to learn. According to Daniel Luzer, keeping year round school isn’t a bad idea. Keeping year around school can prevent education loss in children. Education loss is a serious problem in students. it causes them to no be able to remember what they have learned in school while on summer vacation causing the teachers to stress out in having to repeat the information they have already taught the kids. According to Daniel Luzer, American fourth graders rank among the top ten countries in performance in math and science, but eighth grade, they fall below developing countries. Still no one can demonstrate that we’re losing because of summer vacation. Falling below is a bad sign for eighth graders having them forget what they have learned in several years of their life. To sum up my three reasons of kids can recover for academic and social pressures of school, summer vacation is in our culture it’s an American tradition creating long lasting memories, the extra time off during the school can be a big stress reliever. Having summer vacation is needed to keep us kids happy and healthy. Being happy and healthy is caused by having fun with your family and spending as much time as you’d like with them. For those three reasons, it explains why we should have summer vacation.
