Schools in the United States of America Should Start Later Than 8:00
Studies show that when schools started even a half hour later than normal the students’ grades progressed by a whole to a half step ("Do Schools Begin Too Early?"). That can decide a passing grade for some students. Imagine the improvement in grades if school were to start two whole hours later. For years, the topic of schools’ start time has been a controversial topic that has not changed. Schools start too early because: Schools already start earlier than 8:30, the time recommended by doctors; kids are not able to get a good night’s sleep because the brain is still sending sleep signals well after most schools days start; and …show more content…
Breaking sleep patterns is not good for the body. Teens should not get up earlier for school because it can disrupt their sleep patterns
To sum up this argument, school should start later as many schools start earlier than recommended by doctors, students’ sleep patterns change as the progress in school, and when most schools are starting, students’ bodies are still in sleep mode. People should be encouraged to go into their communities and convince schools to start later in the morning. Schools in the United States of America should start later than 8:00 to reduce kids’ health and grade issues
Another reason why schools should start later in the day is that health issues are more prominent when schools start earlier. According to Science News for Students, obesity increases when teens are sleep deprived. Studies also show that mood swings and depression rates are more common when students do not get enough sleep. These conditions can affect academic success negatively. Drugs can also come into play when students are trying to replace lost energy from lack of sleep. When schools start too early kids begin to develop health
