Persuasive Speech On Becoming A Mankato East Cougar
JK Rowling's once said “It's impossible to live without failing at something unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case, you fail by default.” As seniors we have spent our last 4 years having our ups and downs while trying to achieve many goals. Today we're graduating high school to me that hasn't sunk in just yet. Within the walls of our schools we've overcome struggles from trying to write essays to passing a test or trying to hear your teacher when there's construction going on around you. Some of those struggles might have been failures, but you can't learn without failing it's a natural occurrence in life. A wise man once said you miss 100% of the shots you don't take and that's true. This senior class has proved that we can get somewhere with our …show more content…
Even with the ups and downs we've had to face we've learned to overcome them and are leaving with problem solving strategies that we can take with us. One’s that we can use every day of our lives and it's not just like when you sit in the math class and they say ;oh you're going to use this every day’ and it's like when have I ever use that. Being a Mankato East cougar has given us opportunities to participate in the community around us. It's also giving us opportunities to get out of our comfort zone to join clubs and groups that we normally wouldn't from student council to Band to taking an AP and enriched class. There have been so many opportunities we all just have to know when to take them. Believe it or not I never actually dream this day would come I never dreamed of the day where I became a senior or I was standing up here saying this speech to you at my graduation. I was always the shy quiet kid but I had teachers and I had classes that helped me to overcome that. I've had people in my life that have become like family during my time here at the East and this isn't a

Throughout my life, I experienced many events that would make most people unable to function socially, emotionally, or academically. These events include two divorces, five house relocations, and a transfer to a new high school during senior year. I consistently failed assignments and could not stay focused during class as my . Most teenagers would have given up here as the disappointment from both their parents and teachers would have destroyed their hopes for a successful future. However, this anguish became a catalyst for what would become a significant restructuring in both my demeanor towards schoolwork and my perspective on the future. Against all odds I was able to bounce back from the discouragement I had faced. I believe that this…

While reading the article Suicide on Campus and the Pressure of Perfection many parts seemed relatable to things that my fellow classmates and I have talked about before with some of our classes. One bad grade can make it feel like you are going to fail the class and need to drop it. One part of the reading that really jumped out to me was “create adolescents who are ultra-focused on success but don’t know how to fail” (Scelfo, J., Suicide on Campus and the Pressure of Perfection). That statement is very true, not only for adolescents but all ages. I see many people who hate to fail and will suffer greatly to not do so, one of my classmates last semester dropped a class and has to take it over the summer because she thought that she would fail…

Eastview football is known for its outstanding sports programs, especially its football team. Unfortunately, that does not apply to my class. Our team had put in bone crushing hours in the weight room and on the field since June. There was no doubt in my mind that we wanted to win more than any other team. I wish this story ended with us getting countless wins and making it to state, however, Eastview football lost every single game that year. Even though we did not win a single game, I still refused to give up. I showed up to every single practice, eager to learn, and to make myself better. When I start something, I finish it no matter how hard or how painful it might be. I will bring that same intensity to UW-Eau Claire. There will be countless setbacks in my college career at UW-Eau Claire, but I am going to get through each and every one. My persistence and tenacity will make me thrive in your college, because I will not take the easy way around. I will take each and every painstaking step to see the view from the…

The decision I made that day was certainly not easy. Part of me wanted to give up and avoid the risk of disappointment and failure, but I chose to pursue my goals despite my fear of failure that stood in my way. I realized that failure is in essence a lack of success; therefore, quitting is the ultimate failure because it precludes any chance of success. From my new perspective, quitting to avoid failure would be absurd. I would gain absolutely nothing by not trying, so I decided to improve and try out again the next year.…

In my household family I am considered to be bright and known to always receive excellent grades, but in school everything changes. I am not as intelligent as everyone else, but what I do have is that I do not give up. My peers seem to get devastated from failing grades and not having the highest average as they hoped for. I, myself see failure as a motivation to never give up. Even when I feel like I have given my all into a goal I continue to move forward to get even further. Everyone in life will have their own personal obstacles they will have to face in life. Some people will mentally shut down and give up when faced with a challenge. Others will take their challenges and use them to better themselves. The obstacles that I have faced in my life have never hit me harder than they have these past few months. This being my senior year, I always expected it to be the most laid back and relaxing year of my high school career. When in fact I set myself up for one of the biggest challenges of my life so far, by signing up for multiple online college classes, helping out with activities all over the school, and playing football for the first time since freshman year. Although, under all this immense pressure, this is where my true colors came out. I didn’t stop working to my full potential,…

When I first stepped into Anderson High School as a freshman, I was exceedingly confident in myself. I played sports, had gotten good grades, and planned to have an amazing high school career. Freshman and sophomore year were a breeze. If I am being straightforward, I did not focus much on my schoolwork. I did what was required of me and got good grades, but I did not go above and beyond. I had always been told by upperclassman, “It only gets harder from here. Enjoy it while you can.” Now I realize what that means.…
