2. I am interested in this topic because of the New York Times article I read in my senior literature class and I visited this sight over the summer. It is important to my life because I have lost family members and close friends due to suicide. I chose this topic due to my interest in the Golden Gate Bridge and how it seems so easy for people to just jump off without someone trying to stop them. There are always plenty of people on the bridge, so I find it hard to believe that people can just not notice someone taking their life away.

I find this topic will interest people because it is a shocking subject, most people do not know the number of jumpers, the ones who have survived, or the safety barriers as of now. I would like to address a young and involved audience with open minds about the subject, but I want them to have interest in trying to install more safety to lessen the number of death. My target audience will be those who are unaware of the suicide numbers off the bridge and those who care about safety in everyday life.
4. Golden Gate Bridge officials are close to finalizing a new funding plan to build a suicide barrier on the span, a project that now has a price tag of $204 million.

In 2008, the government agreed to install a plastic-covered stainless steel net to be positioned below the bridge.
