General Goal: I want to inform my audience
Specific Goal: I want my audience to understand that gun control is not the answer to crime rates, suicide and homicide, but rather better and more mental health recognition and help and gun safety awareness.
INTRODUCTION
I. Columbine, Virginia Tech, Aurora, Newtown are just a few places where mass shootings have happened that have left people forever scarred and unable to forget. Because of these and other incidents, the gun control topic has been in the spotlight. There is no question that guns are a contributor to crimes and murders. Many of those for gun control try to argue that a 30 round mag is far to many for self-defense and/or hunting, even if they have done experienced neither.
Remember in self-defense, in a high adrenaline situation, there is no time to take to aim. Even for an adequate shooter not every bullet is going to hit.
Conclusion
I. There is no way to permanently wipe away crime, but media restrictions, mental health funding and recognition, and gun safety awareness and education would be a great starting point to lower it.
II. Gun Control simply wouldn’t be a good idea and is not the answer to this ongoing problem. Our right to bear arms should not be taken away. The only thing this would accomplish is taking away the right and protection for those who do make good choices. Criminals have and will find other ways to commit their crimes. So, I hope that the next time the gun control debate comes up; you will take a stand and be able to voice why gun control will not work.
