Planned Parenthood has been in a negative spotlight for the past few weeks after the Center for Medical Progress released a slew of videos about the sale of aborted babies. Planned Parenthood was started as a non-profit organization to inform their clients on topics of reproductive and sexual heath, counseling for sexual abuse victims, and abortions to women who have become pregnant. Planned Parenthood describes their work as, “The majority is preventive, primary care, which helps prevent unintended pregnancies through contraception, reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections through testing and treatment, and screen for cervical and other cancers.” (Planned). The organization has almost 700 facilities across the U.S. which are designed to provide screens and tests for cancer, contraception, and information about sexually transmitted diseases. Planned Parenthood’s foremost task is carrying out abortions of the innocent unborn. They are in a constant battle for more federal support in Congress, the Supreme Court, and the media. Lastly, Planned Parenthood provides services in Latin American countries and Africa to help women who have no access to essential reproductive health services.
