Planned Parenthood Pros And Cons
When people think of reproductive health care centers their mind automatically jumps to the name Planned Parenthood. Since its founding in 1916 by Margaret Sanger, Planned Parenthood has amounted to a number of people rallying both for and against them. The fight for Planned Parenthood has never completely been resolved, and even now the issue of federally- funding Planned Parenthood is an issue discussed at large when deciding who to elect to represent our country for the next four to eight years. People advocating for the funding of Planned Parenthood by the federal government are doing something that is rightfully so. It should not be an issue whether or not Planned Parenthood should be funded or not. The question that asks whether it should …show more content…

Planned Parenthood not only provides healthcare to women who have health care available outside of just Planned Parenthood, but it provides healthcare to millions of women all across the country, and all across the world, who have no other place that they can receive health care. It is simply a matter of fact that if Planned Parenthood centers stopped receiving compensation and were forced to shut down that thousands, perhaps millions,of people would lose the only place that they can always rely on to help keep them healthy. A quote from “The Impact of Defunding Planned Parenthood” states that, “If extreme politicians shut down Planned Parenthood, 2.5 million patients would lose access to care. Here’s the breakdown: Approximately 60% of Planned Parenthood’s patients access health care at its centers through publicly funded programs like Medicaid or Title X. Legislation that ‘defunds’ Planned Parenthood immediately blocks those people from accessing care at Planned Parenthood health centers.” Forcing Planned Parenthood centers to shut down would leave millions of people who do not have any other access to health care helpless and …show more content…

The simple answer here is, blatantly, no, they can not. Even if other reproductive health centers were to aid in helping pick up the patients that came from Planned Parenthood being defunded, no reproductive health care center would be able to make up for the loss that defunding Planned Parenthood would make. One quote from Planned Parenthood states that,”80 percent of our patients receive services to prevent unintended pregnancy.Planned Parenthood services help prevent approximately 579,000 unintended pregnancies in a single year.Planned Parenthood provides more than 270,000 Pap tests and more than 360,000 breast exams in a single year, critical services in detecting cancer.Planned Parenthood provides more than 4.2 million tests and treatments for sexually transmitted infections, including more than 650,000 HIV tests.Planned Parenthood affiliates provide educational programs and outreach to 1.5 million young people and adults in a single

Abortions are now safer than childbirth itself, having an exceedingly less fatality percentage (“Supreme Court Strikes Down Abortion Restrictions in Texas,” 2016). ● Some individuals think that to put such “restrictions” on clinics creates an “undue burden” for women and their ability to receive an abortion legally (“Supreme Court Strikes Down Abortion Restrictions in Texas,” 2016). ● One argument against the regulations is that it would require a multitude of clinics to shut down, leaving countless women without a clinic nearby (“Supreme Court Strikes Down Abortion Restrictions in Texas,” 2016). ● Due to the fact that “approximately 900,000 women would have to drive close to 300 miles round trip” might cause them to go about other ways of…

Elected representatives need to be reminded that cutting funds will essentially shut down reproductive health centers and deny access to the most vulnerable in our communities. Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, believed woman had the right to a safe place when it came to their rights on birth control and information regarding abortions. Sanger paved the way for many women to revolt and fight their rights which eventually led to the opening of Planned Parenthood. Some people believe defunding Planned Parenthood is the next approach we need to take on ending women’s rights for abortions. Although, planned parenthood does provide abortions that is only one of the many services they provide. Planned Parenthood provides STD screenings, treatments, HIV testing, Breast exams which test for cancer, prenatal care, abortions, and the prevention of unintended pregnancies such as different methods of birth control.…

Planned Parenthood is not the correct place students should be going to for internships, I cannot fathom what they would “supposedly” be learning in a place that kills hundreds of thousands of babies each year. Although Planned Parenthood does offer abortions they also offer low income women support and health services; college students should not have to go to clinics like these to earn the credits they need to graduate. I think the article lacked responses from the students as well. They should have asked the students taking part in these internships to see if they wanted to be in them or not, instead of just having outsiders tell them they are in a “Christian university” and should not be taking part in internships that go against their beliefs. All in all, I do not think TCU should have offered the internship in the first place. They should know that they are held up to high standards and definitely should have known this is the response they were going to get from…

Some people have preconceived notions that Planned Parenthood is largely encouraging teenagers and young adults everywhere to engage in premature sex by providing them with contraceptives for little to no price; however, this is a far cry from what is actually taking place. Defunding Planned Parenthood would mean that millions of teenagers and young adults everywhere would be losing sex education. From the article “9 Things People Get Wrong About Planned Parenthood,” a statistic states “Planned Parenthood websites receive approximately 60 million visits a year, and the organization offers both text and call options for teenagers (and adults) who are curious about sex, family planning, sexually transmitted disease, and contraceptives.” Taking away from teenagers resources regarding sex and sex education can cause them to lead down a path of engaging in unsafe sexual practices, and can cause them to contacts sexually transmitted diseases and to become pregnant. For some teenagers and young adults, Planned Parenthood is the only form of sex education that they will be exposed to during their lifetime.…

It didn’t occur to me that these people were here to oppose Planned Parenthood, not for what they stood for, but because they decided to give women the choice over their own bodies. Less than a year before, I joined planned parenthood in a youth program to teach comprehensive sexual education in my surrounding area. This included things from anatomy, to contraception, all the way to the dynamics of a healthy relationship. This had opened my eyes to all the good that Planned Parenthood does, and is what brought me to volunteer. All of the thoughts of all of the good that Planned Parenthood does filled my head as I opened the door to greet the first terrified woman. She stepped out of her car, introduced herself, and we proceeded towards the clinic. Lucy, the first woman to enter the clinic, was five months pregnant and was there to hopefully find out the sex of her new child. Unfortunately, the people waiting outside the clinic didn’t know that. They were under the assumption that Lucy was at the clinic in order to abort her unborn child, and they were determined to convince her to change her mind. Between the shouts of the protesters I did my best to calm Lucy, to no avail. As we neared the door, I could feel the pure fear that surged through Lucy as the “peaceful” bystanders yelled things like “ Woman regret killing their baby ma’am, don’t…

Most prominently, PPFA clinics offer affordable birth control, Pap smears for screening cervical cancer, life-saving abortions, breast exams, and STD tests to women, men, and young people alike. In the 100 years since nurse Margaret Sanger created the organization, the growth and expansion of Planned Parenthood, originally called the American Birth Control League, is testament to thes success and growing need for accessible reproductive health services in the United States (Alter). The organization has become practically ubiquitous as, following the current trend, 1 in every 5 American women will utilize the services offered by Planned Parenthood at some point in her life (Ernst). This is possible, according to the official PPFA website, through “56 independent local affiliates and 650 clinics currently in operation around the country to provide access to quality healthcare and educational services” (“Planned Parenthood at a Glance”). These clinics should receive government funding in order to continue serving the fundamental health care needs of the people, the same mission the organization has upheld since its founding in the…

When my mother was a young woman in Germany, barely starting college and just having turned twenty, she became pregnant with me, despite being on birth control. Not even two years later, she became pregnant with my brother, this time on a stronger birth control. By the mere age of twenty-two my mother had two children with no clue on how to care for them or for herself. She had agreed to moving to America with my step father years later, partially hoping that the health care she needed, and that I will eventually need, would be more readily available here, and at a reasonable price. Her hopes went unanswered until years later, when she stumbled across a page briefly explaining Planned Parenthood. Since then they have taken care of both me and…

The concept of abortion has been around for hundreds of years, yet it is still a topic of controversy. Although it has been around for so long there are still many problems. Along with those problems are plans to resolve them, and current solutions. The main problem is the controversy on the legalization of abortion and government funding of Planned Parenthood. As of right now they have put restrictions on abortions but there are still many people that are making arguments for the side they agree with to continue to change the law. The two main side in this argument are pro-life activists and pro-choice activists, they disagree with each other on almost everything when it comes to this topic, which continues the debate between whether abortion…

On December 30th, 1994, a deranged terrorist from the Boston area, opened fire inside of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Brookline, Massachusetts. He killed two healthcare workers and critically injured five other people's. His reason; the clinic provided abortion. The government needs to keep abortion safe and legal, and in so doing, it needs to treat anti-abortion terrorists with the same seriousness it applies to Muslim terrorists. Abortion should stay legal and protected by the government as it is a right and choice to every pregnant women, the government can’t afford poor mothers taking care of children they simply cannot afford, and religious beliefs should remain irrelevant to constitution.…
