Selma - Guys, I didn’t know Ava DuVernay was invited to the Director’s branch of the Academy until recently so that aspect quite excites me. I’m going to pull a mini-Anne Thompson though. I’m not sold yet. She seems to have made a pretty well regarded independent film a lot of Awardswatch members are big fans of, but she still has had no mainstream success…. and after I hear Lee Daniels almost directed this script I can’t get the image that is a potential mess in regards. I still haven’t seen her work, and I’m probably wrong… I’m just going to wait for a trailer because I don’t feel like predicting while not confident. If Paramount didn’t already have Interstellar, I’d probably give in already. I know they can absolutely get two contenders in, but at the same time it gives me a barrier to lay down on predicting Selma right now because I don’t think they’re doomed without it. I’m so very close to predicting it for a lot, and believe me I’ll join the ranks of Richard…. I’m just going to wait until I see a trailer.

No one knows what to expect after he filmed this during a hiatus from the daily show, but for him to choose to premiere it at the Oscar friendly Telluride first really entices me of the potential here. Open Road Films is a rather new distribution company, but they really have two rather hot items right now. Nightcrawler which early word is a real winner and potential screenplay contender & now Rosewater is
