Police Discrimination Case Study
According to the City of Phoenix Operational Orders, the purpose of the equal employment opportunity is to Ensure equal opportunities and conditions to all persons. Those who are employed with the city of phoenix will not engage in discriminatory or sexual harassment acts. This is important because everyone needs to feel safe at their workplace. Specifically, for police officers, the community we work with may be discriminatory at times, therefore we need to be able to work with other officers and employees who do not discriminate. Discrimination creates an unsatisfactory work atmosphere which decreases productivity and morale. Discrimination is unlawful; therefore, it is up to the supervisors to ensure there is no discrimination within the workplace. The city of phoenix aims to hire, train, assign, and promote all employees equally. By law discrimination is unlawful, however, the city of phoenix expects their employees to adhere to a higher standard than what the law requires. Discrimination includes treating someone based on their race, color, gender, sexual orientation, and other discriminatory ideas. The phoenix police department is a family made up of brothers and sisters and therefore all must be treated equally and fairly. We depend on one another on a day to day basis, therefore, this policy is very important to uphold. Those who break the policy will be disciplined. The report may include ethnicity, gender, age, and other various factors. The importance of such a report is to ensure nondiscriminatory balance in employment. These reports will stay on file for a minimum of five years. Discrimination causes an unsatisfactorily work experience and complaints will be taken seriously.
