Political Correctness In The United States

When asked to pinpoint the one problem that stands out the greatest in society, one may struggle as this is no easy task. While there are numerous problems surrounding civilization, the one that best speaks to me is that of political correctness. And what exactly even is political correctness? It is the avoidance of language or behaviors that are believed to offend others. People tend to sometimes be more concerned with going out of their way to offend others that they fail to address the important issues. Our very own president is a prime example of this as he refuses to utilize the term “radical Islam”. Too concerned with not wanting to offend others, he fails to accept what it truly is. This is not just seen in the US, but in other countries as well.
One may lose his ability to make hard and fast decisions in favor of evading any affronting outcomes. The trials of the Muslim men in Liverpool, Britain is a chief example of this. Nine Muslim men were accused of sexually assaulting many young children. This lead to the discovery of various police officers and social workers refusing to “investigate Muslim pedophile gangs” simply due to the fact that they were afraid of being racist (Kern). This kind of thinking inhibits society of tackling real problems. The fear of offending someone is greater than taking action. Another drawback of political correctness is a loss of individuality.
