Political Stereotypes: Government Control Of Political Ads
Government Control of Political Ads
Political ads these days are mostly negative ads trying to expose the weakness of there opponent. Negative ads bend the truth to make there opinion seem better than there adversary. The main goal of political ads should be to inform the country of there political view on the government issues. People in this country should educate themselves on the issues and the way each candidate stand on the issues besides political ads. In the other hand shouldn’t we hold the future leaders of this country to a higher standard than the common man?
The negative ads of this election are working on the same principle. This is what this candidate is going to do wrong so vote for me I’ll change the government. The negativity

The first activity that many members of the United States Congress engage in is advertising. Mayhew defines advertising as “any effort to disseminate one’s name among constituents in such a fashion as to create a favorable image but in messages having little or no issue content” (Mayhew, 1974). In advertising, the ultimate goal for a member of the United States Congress is to create an identity among constituencies in order to become more widely recognized. Among other things that a member of the United States Congress can advertise are personal qualities, according to Mayhew. These personal qualities may involve a politician’s “experience, knowledge,…

The Resistance Party is mainly targeting the population of young voters because they need to learn more in-depth about politics which will ultimately help them decide where they stand on specific issues. Undoubtedly, every young voter is different. Some may like either democratic or republican viewpoints but there are others who may like viewpoints from both political parties. However, politics is not just a pick and choose game. Researching about different approaches to issues and assimilating new ideas are beneficial in order to become knowledgeable in politics. For instance, abortion is one of most significant issues in today’s society. Although many young voters may think choosing pro-life or pro-choice is all there is too it, it is important…

For example, candidates have to spend money on radio and television ads so they can convince citizens that they are the representative for them. A suggestion to remove the money needed to do this is to have radio or television stations to run ads as a public service. If a station decides to allow an ad for a certain public office, then they must make itself available to run other candidates running for the same position. The United States could also allow stations to write off free political ads as a tax credit (LaRaja, & Schaffner…

Many people watch media outlets that are biased. Fox News, one of the most viewed news programs, televises content that is seemingly biased towards liberals. Like most news programs Fox News provides their audience with content that would not coincide with the views of an individual that has a more liberal mind frame. Subjects such as abortion and stem cell research have gained a massive amount of notoriety within recent years. Fox News has chosen a conservative approach when speaking on the subjects.…

It can be argued that the election campaign is now more important than long term factors in shaping voting behaviour is because it shows off the personality of the party leader and the party itself to its full potential. This allows the voters get a sense of what the party is really like as it enables the voter to assess the competence of a party. This is useful as it helps the voter to make rational decision. For example, right now there is an election campaign running and Nigel Farrage the leader of UKIP has made a statement like this: “we cannot treat you for breast cancer, we cannot treat you for prostate cancer, we haven’t got the money…We’re prepared to give them the drugs for being HIV positive you then get yourself into a situation where you ask yourself a question: is the job of the National Health Service to look after people here or is it to be an international health service?”. Many people would be outraged by this and may disagree with him, this is because they disagree with the parties ideas, and this shows the party in its true light and help people make a rational and pragmatic decision when it comes to voting in the general election. Therefore, this shows election campaigns as playing a big role in shaping voting behaviour.…

    Libertarian Stereotypes

There are certain stereotypes about libertarians that hold some truth. Many people who followed this movement, do so only to advance a personal agenda and do not follow the whole ideology. There are a couple of people in this group who only use the label “libertarian” just to agree with Democrats and Republicans. Also, some individuals joined just so they could spout anti-government hate. For example, Alex Jones associated himself with libertarians just so he could get attetion to his cause. He runs an entire news channel on misinformation or scare tactics so he could influence other people to follow him. This group is known to also have a couple of nut jobs here and there, but at the end of the day, it should not take away from their core principles for which libertarians stand for.…

Negative campaign has become one of the best strategies for politicians to get to the white house. Every election year we see the typical Democratic versus Republican candidate, attacking each other and saying embarrassing things about each other. Last year was not the exception, and a little worse than the past ones. Other than the main ones Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, we also had Berny Sanders from the Democratic party and Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio from the Republican party, who many of us thought were strong and better candidates.…

To reiterate, the best way to improve democracy in the U.S. is by individualizing, localizing, and cleaning up elections and the voting system, but not everybody agrees. The first criticism to this position is that individualizing the voting system is giving additional power to the uninformed voter. This is understandable for the reason that these voters have already made an impact in the current elections, and giving those with outdated, or uninformed views will do nothing but hurt the elections. However, the manipulation of uninformed voters by the candidates is very common, and candidates practice advertising tactics such as attack ads to alter the view of these uninformed voters. Jeffrey Koch, author of “Campaign Advertisements’ Impact…

I believe that elections are based on the public’s personal impression on the candidates rather than the candidate's views on important issues. The reason for that is because as human beings, we instantly “judge the book by its cover”, we naturally do this because we are dependent on our observations of others to determine what kind of a person they are. We take in account of their appearance, verbal behavior, actions, nonverbal messages and situations. No matter what the candidate’s view on important issues are, it will not matter when the public has already made a decision about how they personally feel towards them. For example, a negative quality or information about a candidate will outweigh any positive qualities the candidate may have. Therefore, whatever they are proposing it will seem meaningless and irrelevant.…

The government can better regulate the campaigns, allowing each candidate to have the same playing field, spend more time connecting with the people, and have an equal amount of financial support. There is a distinct disparity between president’s expectations and performance due to the influence of political parties (Kernell, et al. 311). If the president is more willing to compromise and disregard their political party’s pressures, they would be a more efficient and effective president. One repercussion to such a change might be finding the means for funding. It can be very expensive to raise funds for a presidential campaign. Despite that, the government can receive funds through donors and political supporters. Therefore, a government funded campaign will limit tensions between parties and candidates during the presidential…

Unfortunately, voters may not spend a lot of time and energy into researching the best candidates and understanding government issues. Voters should spend more time researching, watching news, reading newspaper articles on the candidates, so that they can know the candidate's ideals, motives and beliefs. That would improve the voters' point of view. If voters were informed, this country would be the perfect country.…

The second logical fallacy that I choose to write about is any political advertisement during any political campaign. Yes, I may seem cynical, however, I have never known a politician to get into office and do what he/she said they were going to do. The fallacy that is used here can be nearly any of the ones named from personal attack to appeal to ignorance. We have all heard our politicians attack each other, therefore, personal attack; appeal to ignorance enters when we do not do our homework on what a certain politician says or promises. Can it be done? Is it even constitutional? These are the things that some people do not even bother to find out. As for a fix, I am not sure that there is one. Again, I am cynical.…
