What is Autism
Autism is a mental condition, present from early childhood, characterized by great difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concepts.

Boys are far more likely to be affected by autism than are girls.
Boys are four times as likely to be affected than girls.
This well-known sex bias, or sexual dimorphism.
This is probably at least partly the result of differences in prenatal as well as early postnatal brain development.
How does autism effect communication?
Children with Autism develop differently and more slowly.

The sensory challenges might make children more interested in environmental sounds like whirring of a fan or vacuum than in the sound of people talking.
They can be distracted or not to hear what people say.
They either imitate whole sentences without always understanding the meaning or simply don’t.
Among children who don’t imitate, first words are delayed and are unusual.

Adolescents with autism can benefit from transition services that can help them into independence and employment opportunities.
