Archetypes in film appear to each viewer in different ways. The subconscious thoughts of the viewer identify what characters are what archetypes in the hero’s myth. In the article “Creating the Myth”, Linda Seger distinguishes each kind of archetype seen in the hero’s myth. By focusing on the archetypes that remain consistent throughout the hero’s myth, Seger overlooks the shape-shifting archetypes that have the power to contradict this trend.…

This movie does seem to be the archetype for star crossed lovers because they both come more different worlds and have things that stand in there way for a happy ending. Does the movie explain this different place and time where they could be together? Could the sea witch also be an archetype for the villain as well?…

Both Ms. Strangeworth from “The Possibility of Evil” and Captain Torres from “Lather and Nothing Else” represent the villain archetype; however, Miss Strangeworth better represents it because she enjoys the evil she causes, whereas Captain Torres does not. First of all, the roles of the characters are shown as villains throughout both of the stories. In the case of Miss Strangeworth, it is when she sends her malicious messages to the town without regard for their feelings (Jackson 5). Meanwhile, Captain Torres is revealed as the villain when the barber remembers “...the sight of the mutilated bodies kept me from noticing the man who had directed it all” (Tellez 1) about the captain. Darkness prevails in all humans. It is an inevitable trait that people choose to let shine or keep hidden. The dark is usually a private matter, however, when in frightening or dire situations, the darkness overtakes others. In The Lord of the Flies, William Golding uses archetypes such as the hero, the quest, and loss of innocence to bring out one of the novel’s many themes, the idea of civilization versus savagery.…
