Procrastination Essay
One word, procrastination, the action of delaying or postponing something. Procrastination is something that a lot of people struggle with. I think that it is safe to say that, almost everyone wishes they were not a procrastinator in some way or another, me included.
The myth “it is okay to procrastinate” stood out to me because procrastinating is not okay. I am the type of person that will procrastinate if I do not get a quick start to an assignment or project, but if I start right away I never have to worry about turning in an assignment late. Time management is a huge responsibility one needs in order to be successful in an online course and life in general. If a person has good time management he or she should not be much of a procrastinator. This myth caught my attention because I told myself I was not going to procrastinate with this essay; I was going to get it done on this cold snow day when I do not have anything better to do. This myth did not surprise me because without self-motivation and discipline the chance of succeeding in an online course is very slim. How would one expect to get his or her work done if they do not push themselves to do so? In many classes throughout my school day I hear “do not procrastinate on this” and “that due date is approaching quickly.” I get annoyed hearing teacher talk about students being procrastinators every day, but it needs to be said because many are always doing it. Procrastination is all around us. Everywhere we look people are procrastinating with something or another.
Now that I am beginning my first online course, I am very excited to prove to myself that I will not be one of those students waits until last minute to work on an essay. This myth is something that excites and motivates me to not be a procrastinator during this course. I will meet the deadlines required, I will self-direct myself in the right direction, and I will find a schedule that works for me! With college approaching very quickly, I need to get myself prepared in many ways. I need to manage my time so I can balance my work and play, and what is a better time to begin than my last semester of high school! I will use these myths as a tool to help guide me through my Introduction to Psychology course and any other course I take in the future. Taking an online course scares me a tiny bit it is all based on self-motivation. This will be the first test of how I will do in the real world, when I do not always have someone to help me out. At the same time, I am very excited to learn in a new way! An online course is a very exciting new way of learning! I also am excited about getting more college credits in high school!
All of these tools will help me to reach my goal: to not become a procrastinator. Please remember this, Procrastination is NOT okay! Strive to not be a procrastinator!

The art of procrastination has troubled high school kids for quite some time now. Im sitting here typing my own essay at the eleventh hour, hoping that as the deadline approaches I can piece together an essay to save my grade. “Procrastination is for the efficient at heart”, this quote captures the procrastinators only strength: the ability to make the most out of the time they have. Most students will crack as the pressure of meeting the deadline with quality work overbears them, as they regretfully wish they spent their time wiser. Few will rise up to the challenge and meet the standards, but what separates the students who succeed and those who miserably fail?…

A solution for this problem of procrastination Dr. Berkman suggests that you should change the way you value things. For instance increasing the value of your homework a decreasing the importance of going to a party. In some ways that I procrastinate is doing the dishes or doing my homework or doing chores, pretty much anything that involves me getting up and doing something. I believe I procrastinate like once in awhile, for an example my mom asked me to do the dishes at 3:00 in the afternoon I would do it around 3:10, it may seem like I am lazy but i really am not, I mean what teenager wants to wash the dishes. the only time I don’t procrastinate is when I want something, i’m pretty sure every teenager does this. Like take me for an example, my best friend in the whole wide world’s birthday is coming up and she asked my best friends and me if we can go so for that being I don’t hesitate on washing the dishes or vacuuming or doing my homework - nope - I would do what every average teen would do .. I don’t procrastinate. What I blame my procrastination is for…

Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is hard for me to stop procrastinating. I believe I do my best writing at the last minute. I usually wait until the night before to do most of it. I am usually up late the night before the paper is due. Having things due dates has kept me on task, and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your result will be. That was my mistake with the argumentative paper.…

I would say that I do not procrastinate in my everyday life; I was only procrastinating about going to school to chase my dreams. The one way I avoid procrastination is a saying I use in my house on a daily basis, “do it now”. I teach my children to do whatever it is to do it now and not wait to do it. Waiting to me is a waste of time. I like to get all my things tended to and taken care of. Some examples I can use to stop procrastination is, don’t make an excuse why you should wait to do something, do it now. Don’t try to get out of doing something, do it now. Don’t try to get someone else to help you or do it for you, just do it now.…

“There's nothing wrong with procrastination. Or is there? I'll leave it to you to decide, but only if you have the time.”- Craig Brown. Procrastinating plays a role in someone’s life. It is something that we all as humans try to overcome, but in reality, it is something that will impact us in some way, at any cost. Procrastination is a habit of putting off a task until a later time what could or should have been done at that time. It’s a tormenting weakness I’m struggling with and it’s keeping me back from being successful. It’s like an virus eating up my body infecting various parts of my life.…

Now that we removed sleep from our day, or shortened our sleep by a few hours we can now accomplish all of those tasks. Well then we begin the process of procrastination. Procrastination is an avoidance of an action or task. My children are the perfect definition of procrastination. “Clean your room” we tell them, “I’ll do it later” they reply. Later comes, it is still not done and then they will not be able to do something they wish to do. Adults are almost just as bad. Whether it is a task from work or even enrolling in school to earn a degree, we will procrastinate in the hopes of someone will complete the task or even earn our degree for us. When that day does not come we look to our excuse of “I don’t have the time”.…

College is difficult, it demands a lot of your time, and attention. Have you ever said the words,” I will do it later”? We are all procrastinators in some way or another; the difference is some people stick to their deadlines (with the proneness to misjudge the amount of time it takes to finish). According to Center for Student Excellence (CSE) advisors many college students find themselves waiting until the last minute to study or complete assignments, and students often find themselves procrastinating due to their newfound independence, a multitude of distractions and a lack of motivation (Patrick, 2014). One explanation for procrastination is that it is a choice. We have a choice to complete a task now instead of later. Another explanation is that it is a way to deal with anxiety, boredom, guilt, frustration and anger. When we procrastinate it can adversely affect our health. In a study done in 2007, researchers found that while at the beginning of the semester students who procrastinated showed less signs of illness and lower levels of stress than non-procrastinators, by the end of the semester, the procrastinators were found to have higher levels of stress and illness…
