United States Marines are fighting for our country, but according to the 2012 military pay charts, a Marine in his first four months as an E-1, earns $1,379 a month, or $16,548 a year. Due to the fact that they are fighting for our freedom, this amount of money is ridiculous. Nfl players are simply playing a game. My uncle— a Marine— told me, “ It was a struggle to make enough to have something to come back to.” Fighting for our country should outweigh playing a game any day of the week. …show more content…
The main problem with athletes today is that they feel as if they are entitled to oodles of money.
Compared to an average human, professional athletes are exceeding the expectation of living financially. Watching the Jacksonville Jaguar vs the Cincinnati Bengals game where Jalen Ramsey was fined 42,541 dollars for fighting Aj Green, baffled me. Having this is be a minimal fine proves they are practically making billions on billions, therefore thousands is nothing for them. The median household income in Baltimore is $41,819, but the city's high cost of living requires $12,078 more than that for a person to live comfortably according to a 50-30-20 budget. By looking at the fact that NFL players are spending the amount of money many people need to live on a simple fine, proves they are making more than they probably should. Obviously the Marines aren’t doing as much for our country as football players are, it’s not like they are fighting for our freedom and basic human rights or
anything. Primary care doctors are earning an average $195,000 annually and specialty care doctors are making $284,000. The medical field is an extremely strenuous job, therefore, they deserve this amount of money. When my grandpa was ill, I witnessed a cardiothoracic surgeon perform treatments on him that prolonged his life by three years; he would not of had those three years if there was not a quality trained surgeon. Doctors are saving lives daily, but somehow professional athletes manage to make double or triple what physicians make. Fans may love a sport and going to sporting events, but if you were to tell them pick a game or their life it would be an easy choice. I feel as if professional athletes should have a cap on how much they can make, or just decrease the pay and make a base rate for all players.
