Pros And Cons Of Autonomous Driving

Autonomous driving is an exciting technology but also quite scary at the same time. Even though it might be pretty cool I think the cons outweigh the pros. It could have bugs, be unable to break the law to avoid a tragic incident and also many laws would need to be altered. For instance, if you think about it laptops and computers glitch, they glitch a lot and they aren’t subject to extreme weather conditions during operation. If these glitches were not found before being sold to the general public, it could be the cause of many fatalities. The company would also be liable I would think. Additionally, the computer would not know when to break traffic laws to avoid an accident, it would not know to swerve into the other line if a semi-truck
is headed straight towards you. My last reason would have to be that many existing laws would need to be changed and new ones created. Laws of liability would need to be altered because the passenger would no longer be driving the car, so the automobile company or computer company would be liable in a case of computer error. The opposition may argue that it could provide elderly and disabled people without licenses a means for transportation. However, the elderly and disabled don’t usually have jobs so they would have no way of paying for it. And if all of the elderly and disabled started financing the pricey cars without having the money then we are back into a depression. After considering the points above I believe that autonomous cars are a bad idea at this current time. This is because glitches in the computer make the cars dangerous, they can’t make judgement decisions and we would have to change our laws. Maybe we should wait till a later time when our technology has improved.
