However, the coaching process is a collaborative one that is designed to change a person’s viewpoint and behavior in a manner that improves that person’s effectiveness and personal satisfaction. Essentially, the coaching process enables a person to reflect and self-discover what actions one is required to take (Hicks & McCracken, 2010). Hicks and McCracken (2011) stated that the attitude and behaviors needed to be an effective coaching manager appear synonymous with those attitude and behaviors required for leadership especially transformational leadership. This is because coaching and leadership tend to go hand-in-hand in terms of the type of relationship formed between a coach/leader and coachee/employee (Hicks & McCracken, 2011). For example, one might argue that Ann is using the individual consideration factor. This refers to an organizational leader who provides a supportive organizational climate in which that leader listens deliberately to others’ needs (Northouse,…

I reflect back now and wonder where the lessons on coaching would have benefited myself and others in the beginning of my career. When I reflect back after coaching class, there were times when I needed a coach not a mentor. I had several mentors who I thought had all the answers and I accepted that was all there was. Through this class I learned I had been doing the exact same, since that is how I was trained. I will definitely implement this tool when I return to my unit, because I believe in the importance of this. I remember someone once saying it’s all in the way you present it. I realize now the importance of this and it will change the way I interact with my difficult boss, junior members, and fellow peers them.…

John Adams said ‘‘there are two kinds of education, one teaches us how to make living and other how to live’’. A coaching class is the former one, which teaches us how to make living, not to live. Coaching system was recently an extra advantage, which now has become vertebrate of present day education system. Coaching is training, development or teaching of an individual to achieve specific personal or professional goal. But seeing the aberrations in this definition, it is quite normal to ask, whether concept of coaching classes is good or bad in long run? Every thing/system/technique/technology has its pros and cons, including the rush for coaching classes. Today coaching classes have become ubiquitous in the life of students. From being a mere support for help of weak students by providing personal attention and methodological training for their betterment, trend of coaching classes in education system has reached to such a summit that it is unclear to decide whether coaching system is aiding schools or vice versa, which is a danger. The present situation may collapse our education system. Concept of coaching classes is very useful and fruitful in short term owed to its number of benefits, evident from the fact that 80% JEE cleared students are from coaching classes. Coaching classes have a fixed schedule, syllabus, planning, approach, which is spoon-fed into students for generating success, which make the system successful. Coaching classes provide a convenient path for success and thus succeeding for short-term plans becomes en easy cake for coaching classes’ students. Seeing the thing in term of long-term plans, the coached students lack selfplanning, discipline, creativity and confidence. They might have reached the pinnacle of success but lack managing and doing things on your own which is significant from the deterioration in the standards of students after leaving coaching classes. These…
